CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES ZOOM MEETING GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, November 1, 2021, 6:00PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE Chair Cuevas Murillo called the meeting to order at 6:00pm B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners Present: Akers, Caron, Cuevas Murillo, Cullers, Gold, Ramirez, Sosa Commissioner Absent: Enriquez Mentors Present: Harris, Hill J, Hill M, Klotz, Lampson, Mayor Farmer. Mayor Farmer arrived at 6:06pm. C. PUBLIC COMMENT- None D. PRESENTATIONS: 1. BREATHE California Breathe California representative Marissa Greenband talked about the next steps needed to make the project a reality. She mentioned how the City Manager is going to put together a policy language to vote on and on another way the commission could help keep the issue in the minds of the council. She suggested how the commission could write individual letters to the city talking about the project. Finally, Marrisa offered a helping hand to commissioners. 2. Tina Hubert-Galt City Clerk; Brown Act changes Tina Hurbert did not present. Her presentation got rescheduled to next month’s meeting or an email will be sent to the commissioners on the presentation. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Harris facilitated an icebreaker; grab three items from your house: something fuzzy, something red, and a condiment. 2. Approval of minutes for the meeting of October 4, 2021 Action Item October 4, 2021 Minutes were motioned by Commissioner Sosa and second by Commissioner Gold. No changes were needed on the Minutes. Motion passed 6-0. 3. Letters to Editor and Council Action Item The Commission discussed sending letters to the council about the Breathe California project. It was encouraged that each commissioner would write a letter on their own time. Motion was made by Commissioner Gold and second by Commissioner Akers. Motion passed 6-0. Commissioner Damaris volunteered to become the advisor for these letters. 4. Budget Report Information Item Commissioner Enriquez was not here to present the budget report; Mentor Hill J filled in for Commissioner Enriquez and discussed the process of refunds and deposits. 5. Lighting of the Night Action Item The Commission discussed participating in the Lighting of the Night event on December 4th. Motion was made by Commissioner Cuevas Murillo and second by Commissioner Cullers. Motion passed 6-0. A float will be made with the help of the commission and a sub- committee. Main Leaders: Sosa and Akers Sub: Cullers, Enriquez, Cuevas Murillo, Ramirez, Harris, and Hill M 6. Spookishly fun movie night Reflection Item Commissioners nicely reflected on the fun movie night. Nice words and remarks were made. 7. Adopt a Street-city clean up Action Item The Commission discussed joining Beautification on the third Saturday of each month. Motion made by Commissioner Cuevas Murillo and second by Commissioner Sosa. Motion passed 6-0. 8. Pen Pal Letter Project Discussion Item No Sub Committee report; leader Commissioner Gold vaguely mentioned that she’ll reach out to the sub- committee on updates and project ideas. Mayor Farmer offered to buy stamps for the letters. The Commission concluded on reaching out to the Ageing group for more information. 9. Fashion Show Project Discussion Item Mentor Harris reported on the date and time for the Fashion Show. Harris also mentioned a suggestion of a $200 budget for the project and items needed for the success of the show. 10. New shirt update Action Item Mayor Farmer mentioned that he’ll have a revised quote to vote on for next month’s meeting. The Commission concluded that the shirts weren’t a priority. No action was taken. 11. City Council Update Information Item Mayor Farmer represented this month's council update; C-street project, Galt PD news, notice on the upcoming council meeting, and talks about the yearly federal grant money. 10. Future Agenda Items Information Item - Vote on the advised quote for the shirts - Visiting seniors idea 11. CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVISORY To protect our constituents, City officials and City staff, the City requests all members of the public to follow the California Department of Health Services’ guidance and the County of Sacramento Public Health Officer Order for the Control of COVID-19 restricting group events and gatherings and maintaining social distancing. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s website at www.ci.galt.ca.us. Consistent with Executive Order N-29-20, the meeting will be held via teleconference/electronically and the City Council will participate via teleconference/electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available.
