City of Galt AGENDA COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday October 28, 2021 at 10:00 AM ZOOM CONFERENCE CALL Chairperson: Bob Balliet (Chair) Commissioners: Alvin Roberts (Vice-Chair), Andrea Johnson, Robert (Bob) Wilson, Phyllis Johnson 1. Call Meeting to Order 2. Roll Call: Bob Balliet, Alvin Roberts, Andrea Johnson, Robert (Bob) Wilson, Phyllis Johnson Advisor: Monica Lopez All present. 3. Public Comment Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the Commission on Aging on non-agenda items. The public comments section is for the Commission on Aging to receive comments; except for brief response to questions, no discussion or action may be taken on any item that is not listed on the agenda. Please limit comments to a maximum of five minutes. Due to the statewide emergency, public comments may also be submitted as noted above via the options listed on the first page of the agenda for providing live public comment or prior to the meeting via email to galtpandr@cityofgalt.org by 8:00am on the day of the meeting, which will be distributed to the Commission on Aging and posted on the City’s website prior to the meeting, but will not be read aloud. 4. Acceptance of Minutes: Approve Minutes of September 23, 2021 Approved (Comm Wilson first, Comm Roberts seconded, all approved). 5.Presentation: Linda Burge – report on virtual GSRC operation Ms. Burge thanked everyone helps with this. For her it has been a wonderful experience with lots of support from the others. Hours have been extended for the phone responses. There have been 18 calls for food, 4 for Senior activities, 10 for COVID questions, 6 for housing, 1 for SSI (4 hour conversation). Ms. Burge has also helped to install a shower van and has helped with applying for a VA loan. She also likes to check in regularly with those who have called in to the center. She is currently unable to answer the calls as they come in, she has to return the messages. She has asked for permission to visit Chabolla to check on the GSRC. 6. Old Business: Committee on Separation of GSRC from City – Report (Bob W & Phyllis J) – TABLED until in person meetings resume. COA’s utilization of social media & City Sign to address Seniors’ concerns (Bob B, Bob W) Comm Balliet plans to speak with Jackie Garcia regarding this. 7. New Business: Commissioners taking ownership of Galt’s Senior Care Homes (Bob B & Alvin R) Recognition of Ms. Linda Burge for operating the Galt Senior Resource Center virtually while it remains closed for COVID related reasons. (Bob B) Letter of Commendation. Recognition of Ms. Tara Wilson for her contributions to the successful operation of the GSRC. (Bob B) Letter of Commendation. Report of the COA’s ‘Trunk or Treat’ activities (Bob B, Andrea J, Bob W, Phyllis J) Discuss need for COA Budget Funding (Bob B) Discuss possibility of COA or GSRC receiving some RAPA funding (Bob B & Bob W) Request for reimbursement to Bob Balliet for the cost of 6 Sample 2022 Galt Senior Resource calendars ($93.71), 6 Sample 2022 Galt Senior Resource Directories ($47.47) & one green pastel-colored ream of copy paper for the ‘Trunk or Treat Flyers’ ($13.78) - for a total of $154.96. Negotiations are continuing to get the best possible deal for both the 2022 Resource calendars (250 copies) and the 2022 Resource Directories (300 to 500 copies). Bob B. will ask the Commission for approval of those expenditures at a Special Meeting either in November 2021 or in December 2021. 8. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s website at www.ci.galt.ca.us. Pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 361, the meeting will be held via teleconference/ electronically and the Parks & Recreation Commission will participate via teleconference/ electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available.
