CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 380 CIVIC DRIVE, GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 6:00PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Caron, Cuevas Murillo, Cullers, Enriquez, Gold, Kaur, Ramirez, Sosa Commissioners Absent: Caron and Enriquez Mentors: Harris, Hill J, Hill M, Klotz, Lampson, Mayor Farmer C. PUBLIC COMMENT - None D. PRESENTATIONS: - None E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker _____________________________________________________________Information Item Mentor Klotz reintroduced Lessons of Leadership with a video. Mentor Klotz facilitated an icebreaker; how have you shown that you’ve been a leader? 2. Approval of minutes for the meeting of December 6, 2021________________________________ Action Item Minutes approved with the change from “approved by Commissioner Cuevas Murillo '' to “motioned by Commissioner Cuevas Murillo. Motioned by Commissioner Sosa and seconded by Commissioner Gold. Motion passed 7-0. 3. Winter Bird Festival_______________________________________________________________ Action Item The Commission agreed to volunteer at the Winter Bird Festival as the Parks and Recreation representative wasn’t there. Commissioner Sosa motioned and Commissioner Gold seconded. Motion passed 7-0. 4. Youth Commission Social Media accounts ____________________________________Information Item City Manager Lorenzo Hines presented the duties the Commission needed to take to get social media content out. 5. Letters to Editor and Council_______________________________________________ Discussion Item Tabled last meeting; Update and approve Talks about re-thinking the process and idea of the letters to council. Sub Committee; Head: Commissioner Ramirez and City Manager Lorenzo Hines Members: Commissioners Murillo Cuevas, Cullers, Kaur, and Akers. 6. Budget Report ____________________________________________________________Information Item Mentor Hill J presented the budget report with no changes or notes to be added. 7. Summer Retreat____________________________________________________________ Discussion Item Commissioners more information on… - Cake competition - Day trip to wilderness - Ziplining - Amusement Park 8. Fundraising_______________________________________________________________ Discussion Item Tabled until more information is provided. 9. Scholarships__________________________________________________________________ Action Item Approval for $750 in scholarships. Commissioner Kaur motioned; Commissioner Sosa seconded. Motion passed 7-0. 10. Adopt a Street-city clean up_______________________________________________________ Action Item Filming of the PSA video will occur on January 15, 2022. Commissioner Kaur motioned and Commissioner Cullers seconded. Motion passed 7-0. 11. Pen Pal Letter Project_______________________________________________________ Discussion Item The Commission discussed focusing on participating with the Interact Club rather than organizing the Pen Pal Letters. 12. Fashion Show Project_______________________________________________________ Discussion Item The Commission discussed the head count for the number of volunteers attending the event on March 9, 2022 and the broad idea towards the event. 13. Alexis liaison to council______________________________________________________ Discussion Item The Commission will show support to Commissioner Gold at her first meeting with the council. 14.
