GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2022, 6:30PM
Mission Statement
- Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens.
- Stimulate community service in Galt
- Encourage family participation in building civic unity.
- Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community.
- Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth
- Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families.
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE: Chair Kaur called the meeting
to order at 6:31.
B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners present: Akers, Brixey (6:31), Bulahan, Murillo Cuevas,
Cullers, Gold, Kaur, Jones, Lallian
Absent: Caron
Mentors present: Harris, Lampson, Mayor Farmer. Mentor at large: City
Manager Lorenzo Hines
C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
D. PRESENTATIONS: None
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker-meeting organization and etiquette Information Item
Bonnie Rodriguez facilitated an icebreaker on commitment, as well as the role and goals of the
commission in the community.
2. Minutes from November 7, 2022 Action Item
Commissioners reviewed and approved the corrected minutes from the November meeting.
Motioned by Cullers, seconded by Gold. Approved 9-0.
3. Partnering with Commission on Aging Information Item
Commissioners Kaur and Akers attended the event and reported on the enjoyment they
experienced. Information regarding partnering with the Commission on Aging on the blanket
drive on December 23 was also discussed.
4. City Manager Update Information Item
City Manager Hines reminded the commission of their power and role in the community. He also
reported on the Market Plan and the visionary plan to recreate the market space into a housing,
entertainment, and community center. He also reported on the Walker Park master plan and the
possible creation of new baseball/softball complexes. City Manager Hines also reported that
Measure-Q has likely been passed by 392 votes, and the new Christmas Décor has been purchased
to be placed around town.
5. Treasurer Report Action Item
Tabled due to the absence of the Treasurer.
5. Planning projects for the year _ Information Item
Activities were reported on.
• Animal service-Akers/Kaur - No new information.
• Random Acts of Kindness-Gold - No new information.
• Escape room-January - No new information.
• Zip lining-March - No new information.
6. Scholarship Committee Action Item
Commissioners Murillo Cuevas and Cullers formed a sub-committee to discuss scholarship
details.
7. January Commission Meeting Action Item
The meeting of January 2nd was moved to January 9th due to no school. Motioned by Jones,
seconded by Gold. Approved 9-0.
8. City Council Update Information Item
Mayor Farmer presented information on the election certification, the passing of Measure Q,
ARPA funds being directed to the rebuilding of playground structures, the review of the Saturday
market, and the rise of cannabis usage in Galt.
