Mission Statement
- Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens.
- Stimulate community service in Galt
- Encourage family participation in building civic unity.
- Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community.
- Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth
- Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families.
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE: Chair Kaur called the meeting to order at
6:30 PM.
B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners present: Akers, Brixey (6:31), Bulahan, Caron, Murillo
Cuevas, Cullers (6:31), Kaur, Lallian
Youth Commissioners absent: Gold, Jones
Mentors present: Paige Lampson, Jessica Goerzen, Alan King; City Council Representative:
Mayor Jay Vandenburg
Mentors absent: Mentor at Large: City Manager Lorenzo Hines Jr.
C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
D. PRESENTATION(S): None
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker Information Item
Mentor King introduced himself to the Commission and expressed his enthusiasm in joining.
He was a former teacher for Stockton Unified and has worked in various community outreach
programs.
2. Minutes from February 6, 2023 Action Item
Commissioners reviewed and approved the minutes from the February meeting. Motion made
by Caron, seconded by Murillo Cuevas. Motion passed, 8-0.
3. Community Career Fair and Fashion Show Discussion/Action Item
Tracie Cross discussed and finalized the Commission participation of the Community Fair
Fashion Show. There will be a meeting held on March 17th, further details to be discussed.
4. Partnering with Commission on Aging Discussion Item
The commission discussed possible dates and places for partnering with the Commission on
Aging as well as plans for senior technology tutoring.
5. Recruitment for 2023-2024 school year Discussion Item
There will be four senior commissioners graduating and 1 term will be ending. With 5 spots
opening up, commissioners appointed a member from each school to spread recruitment
information.
6. Treasurer Report Information Item
Commissioner Caron presented the current funds. There have been no changes to the budget.
A total of $9,486.99 is accessible.
7. Projects for the year updates _ Information Item
Activities for the year were reported on.
• Animal service-Akers/Kaur - There is an animal shelter in Lodi that offers volunteer
opportunities. Applications are on the website in order to help.
• Random Acts of Kindness-Gold - Gold was not present. Commissioner Akers
reported plans in March to leave positive notes in public places, treat school office
staff, leave chalk messages in schools, and create shoutouts for school coaches.
• Zip lining- The commission plans to zipline on Monday, April 3th. Time is yet to be
decided.
8. General survey for high school Information/Action Item
Commissioner Lallian provided information on the outgoing survey for Galt and
Liberty High School. Commissioners have one week to edit and add their own
questions.
9. City Council Update Information Item
Mayor Vandenburg presented information on updated animal services, youth
baseball, developments in homeless crisis information, City of Commerce plans and
proposals, and Saturday market days being extended.
10. Council Appearance Information Item
Commissioner Cullers reported on the presentations he recently gave to the Council
informing about Galt Youth Commission updates.
11. Eggstravaganza fundraiser Information Item

The event will take place April 1 . Commissioners reported on baskets and donations they
secured from various businesses in Galt.
12. Around the Horn Information Item
Commissioners and mentors took turns expressing their gratitude and good thoughts.
13. Future Agenda Items Information Item
● Youth Commission application process for 2023-24.
● Update for Easter Eggstravaganza.
● Updates for Community Fair.
● “Role Model”/Shadow day for 5th and 6th graders.
● Closet Shelves
● Chamber of Commerce and Farmer Old Town Fair in September.
● End of the year activities.

to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes.
D. PRESENTATION(S) Homeless presentation from police personnel.
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:

Commissioners will review and approve the minutes from the Dec. meeting.
