GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

Mission Statement
- Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens.
- Stimulate community service in Galt.
- Encourage family participation in building civic unity.
- Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community.
- Recognize that it takes all the members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families.
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Kareena Lallian, Chair, called meeting to order at 6:30
P.M.
B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners Present: Akers, Bowman, Camacho, Cullers, Fewel,
Myrick-Smith, Oliveros Rivera, Woods, Smith, Lallian, Ortega, Sandhu.
Youth Commissioners Absent: None.
Mentors Present: Council Liaison Farmer, Fjeldstad, Goerzen, King, Lampson.
Mentors Absent: None.

D. PRESENTATIONS: None.
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker Information Item
Mentor King had commissioners give two takeaways from planning their booth for the
Saturday Market.
2. Approval of minutes for August and September Meetings Action Item
A space was added to item 3. “Gabriella Akers” changed to “Gabrielle Akers” in item 4, and
“Trunk r Treat” was changed to “Trunk or Treat” in item 9.

3. Thornton Christmas Show Dec 14th Action Item
Mentor Fjeldstad shared an opportunity for commissioners to help with a Christmas Show in
Thornton. Commissioners approve participation in the Christmas Show.

4. Blanket Drive Action Item
Libby Robin offered commissioners the opportunity to help deliver and collect items for the
Committee of Aging’s Senior Drive.
Moved: Akers Second: Ortega Ayes: 12 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
5. Trunk or Treat on 4th Street Action Item
Commissioners approved their participation in the event and approved a $200 budget for
candy.
Moved: Bowman Second: Fewell Ayes: 12 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
6. Lighting of the Night Action Item
Commissioners approved their participation in the event and approved a $200 budget to
purchase candy.
Moved: Cullers Second: Bowman Ayes: 12 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
7. Yearly Projects Activities Information Item
Mentor Lampson suggested the commissioners come up with larger projects to do later in the
year.
8. City Council Update Information Item
Council Member Farmer updated the commissioners on C-street's construction, Parks and
Recreation, and City Council Elections.
9. Future Agenda Items Information Item
Community Liaison, Lynze Smith, will attend the next council meeting on October 15th.
The Chamber of Commerce will hold a forum on Wednesday, October 16th at 6:00 PM.
Lallian and Smith volunteered to attend.
10. Around The Horn/ Give Your Gratitude Information Item
Commissioners shared gratitude around the horn.

Chair Lallian adjourned the meeting at 7:52 P.M.
