GALT YOUTH COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES

Mission Statement
- Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens.
- Stimulate community service in Galt
- Encourage family participation in building civic unity.
- Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community.
- Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth
-Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families.
A. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 6:30PM
B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Bowman, Camacho, Cullers, Fewell, Lallian,
Oliveros Rivera, Ortega, Sandhu, Smith, Woods.
Absent Commissioner: Myrick-Smith
Mentors: Fjeldstad, Goerzen, Lampson.
Absent Mentors: King & Council Liaison Farmer
C..PUBLIC COMMENT - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may
address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on
any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your
comments to three (3) minutes.

E.REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker Information Item
Skipped due to Mentor King being absent.
2.City Clerk Introduction Information Item
Galt City Clerk, Tina Hubert shared roles and responsibilities of the clerk's office to the commission.
Hubert also explained the Brown Act and Rosenberg's Rules of Order to the commission as the
members are required to follow those while on the Galt Youth Commission.
3. Budget Report Information Item
Hubert presented the current Budget Report of the Galt Youth Commission.Hubert also explained
the process of getting reimbursed monetarily for activities or expenses. Must fill out form, attach
copy of minutes and receipt. Must include Who and Amount for reimbursement.
4. Commissioner Elections Information Item
Mentor Goerzen overviewed the Commission Officers roles before the election. Commissioners
elected: Chair: Kareena Lallian, Vice-Chair: Gabriella Akers, Secretary: Navkiran Sandhu,
Treasurer: Daniel Oliveros Rivera, Sergeant of Arms: Abigail Woods, Public Relations/Outreach
Officer:Alexis Ortega, Fundraising Chair: Kaitlyn Cullers, Community Liaison: Lynze Smith.
5. Commission Swag Action Item
Mentor Lampson brought up the need for T-Shirts, Polos, Sweatshirts for new commissioners. The
Commission discussed their preferences and decided on Polos, Green T-shirts for new members, and
Zip Hoodies for all commissioners. Commission voted 11/0 to approved not to exceed $800.
Motion made: Akers, 2nd: Sandhu
6. Approval of minutes for the meeting of August 5, 2024 Action Item
Motion Tabled as minutes were not ready.
7. Galt City Market Action Item
Vice-Chair Aker asked all Commissioners to get Businesses to donate basket items; at least one item
for per commissioner for raffling at Galt City Market on October 5, 2024. Approval Motion made
by Akers, 2nd Ortega.
8. City Council Update Information Item
Tabled due to Shawn Farmer (City Council Member) being absent.
9. Future Agenda Items Information Item
Chair Lallian opened the discussion for Future Activities of the Youth Commission. Discussed:
Street Clean Ups: 4-5 times per year
Trunk r Treat- Booth
Eggstravaganza-Volunteers
A-Z Foundation Dinner-Serve
Community Dinner-Volunteers
Escape Room
Speakers on different Careers/Topics
10. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude Information Item
Commissioners and Mentors took turns expressing their current Gratitude examples.
