Chairperson: Ernie Cason Commission: Carrie Graham, John McNamara, Chris Smith, Erin Saldivar 1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER at 6:05 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL: a. Commissioners Present: McNamara, Saldivar, Smith, & Graham b. Commissioners Absent: Cason 3. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF AGENDA 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the Parks & Recreation Commission on non-agenda items. The public comments section is for the Parks & Recreation Commission to receive comments; except for brief response to questions, no discussion or action may be taken on any item that is not listed on the agenda. Please limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Please fill out a speaker sheet located on the table inside the entrances to the council chambers and forward the completed speaker sheet to the commission secretary. Please state your name and city of residence prior to making your comments. 5. ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES a. Minutes of the meeting of December 8, 2021 i. Commissioner Smith made a motion to accept the minutes of the December 8, 2021, Parks & Recreation Commission meeting. ii. Commissioner McNamara made a second to the motion to accept the December 8, 2021, meeting minutes. iii. Upon a roll call vote, all present in favor, minutes approved. 6. PRESENTATIONS 7. NEW BUSINESS a. Special Events, Removed from Agenda under Item 3. Changes to the Order of Agenda. b. Aquatic Center Update i. Prop 68 funding and APRA funding received to replace heaters and re-plaster comp pool, under contract and should be taken care of before next swim year, totaling $700,000 for both projects. ii. Slide is condemned, having problems with the steps, getting quotes to replace. GALT PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION AGENDA MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 14, 2022 Page 2 c. Landscape Maintenance Service Levels Update i. Continues to be parks twice a month, landscaping once a month and pruning once a year. ii. Council approved at the last meeting one full-time position. iii. Now have two full-time and four part-time on landscape crew. d. Park Playgrounds Update i. ARPA and a grant through Gametime for 5 new playgrounds at Lake Canyon, Greer Basin, the small one at Community Park, Canyon Creek and (Ashboro, added to the minutes for informational purposes only). ii. Signing contracts now, hoping by spring of next year they will all be installed. e. Walker Park Update i. Another grant through Assemblyman Cooper’s office, $700,000. ii. Getting quotes now for the replacement of Walker Turf. iii. Was installed in 2011. iv. Typical lifespan is 8 years, we are at 11. Hope to start construction in January to have it ready for the spring. f. Measure Q i. Measure Q is a proposed one cent tax measure put on the ballot, would fund city services. 8. OLD BUSINESS 9. UPCOMING COUNCIL AGENDA ITEMS a. Director Solis stated that he had just added the ending of the Saturday Markets to 10/18. He will be reporting revenue and expenses for the year, feedback and asking for direction to continue. 10. UPCOMING EVENTS a. Saturday Market – 10/4 b. Spookishly Fun Movie Night at Veterans Field – 10/21 c. Great Galt Pumpkin Hunt – 10/21 through 10/28 d. Lighting of the Night & Holiday Market – 12/3 e. Breakfast with Santa – 12/17 11. Commissioner Smith – Asked if there had been an organizational change in the department. Director Solis stated that Armando Morales was promoted to the Parks Superintendent position and that he had been working out of class. e.
