CITY OF GALT PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES ANTHONY PESCETTI COMMUNITY ROOM 455 INDUSTRIAL DRIVE, GALT, CALIFORNIA Monday, May 22, 2023, 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:00 pm by Committee Member Schamber. Committee Members present were: Cates, K. Sandhu, Schamber and (non-voting member) Vice Mayor Sandhu. Absent: Chair Reed and Vice Chair Schopf. Staff Members present were: Police Chief Kalinowski and Executive Assistant Wendy Masters. We pledged allegiance to the American Flag. PUBLIC COMMENT: No Public Comment PRESENTATION: No Presentation ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. The minutes from the March 27, 2023 meeting were reviewed and approved with a motion by motion from Cates and seconded by K. Sandhu with a vote 3-0. 2. Weed abatement - Public works is trying to find a vendor to spray the weeds in the sidewalks and medians. CSD Fire Marshall discussed: - Notices have been sent out to land owners. - Fire breaks: 1.99 acres – need to be disked. 2.00+ acres - need to cut fire break. 3. Community Policing – Chief Kalinowski suggested Committee Member K. Sandhu schedule a “Ride Along” with a Galt Police Officer. 4. Crime Prevention – Chief Kalinowski suggested Committee Member K. Sandhu schedule a “Ride Along” with a Galt Police Officer. 5. Hot Spot Policing – Chief Kalinowski suggested Committee Member K. Sandhu schedule a “Ride Along” with a Galt Police Officer. 6. Collaboration with Schools and Youth – Chief Kalinowski discussed this issue with Committee Member K. Sandhu. 7. Addressing Substance Abuse – Discussed Vaping and Fentanyl. 8. Traffic Safety Emphasis – Discussed cars speeding at the park near McCaffrey School. 9. Mental Health Support – Discussion regarding the benefits of having County Social Worker Christine Ruiz work with our Police Officers. 10. Stop Signs and Crosswalks - Mike Selling will have the City Engineer look into this. They will continue to work towards installing “flashing” lights at cross walks. Stop signs have to meet certain standards. UPDATES: Chief Kalinowski discussed: - Adding (10) more Flock cameras in our community. - Traffic stops increased by 17%. Deputy Fire Chief, Dan Quiggle discussed: - The CSD is now hiring. - Galt Fire Station 45 has already received training for the Telemedicine Program. - Galt Fire Station 46 will receive training for the Telemedicine Program the week of May 22, 2023. Mike Selling discussed: - S. Lincoln Way change configuration – to provide right turn lane. Committee Member Chris Schamber discussed: - National Night Out – August 1, 2023, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm CORRESPONDENCE: No correspondence. COMMENTS BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS: No items or topics were brought forward beyond the items discussed in the meeting. Next meeting is scheduled for July 24, 2023. With no further business, Committee Member Schamber adjourned the meeting.
