CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION Special Meeting Minutes, September 9, 2019 Meeting held in City Chambers 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Carolina Cuevas Murillo, Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:01 P.M. B. ROLL CALL: Adult Mentors Present: Cross, Gordon, Klotz, Lampson Mentors Absent: Collier Youth Members Present: Akers, Cuevas Murillo, Hemenover, Kunze, Martin, Mejia, Neuburger, Rivas, Robles (Arrived at 6:06 P.M.), Stalians Members Absent: None C. PUBLIC COMMENT: Jackie Garcia thanked the commission for helping at the Kevin Tonn Run and they will be donating $300 in appreciation of the commission’s efforts. (Robles Enters) Annette Kunze and Areli Beneditz from the Galt Teen Center overviewed the efforts they’re doing to get a Teen Center in Galt and invited the commissioners to attend their community workshop on September 23rd from 6-8pm. D. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Adult Mentor Klotz facilitated an informative icebreaker to the commissioners as a reminder of etiquette while in the board room including tips on how to use the microphones. 2. Approval of minutes for the meeting for August 5, 2019 The commission took action to approve the minutes. Moved: Kunze Second: Robles Ayes:10 Nays:0 Abstain:0 3. Treasurer’s Report Treasurer Kunze provided an updated of GYC funds. He stated that commission had $1,731.33 available after a $19.98 reimbursement to Adult Mentor Gordon for National Night Out expenses. 4. City Council Update Council Member Lampson updated the commission on recently approved budget cuts of $1.3 million. She also shared that there is a new development off of Carillion and Walnut that will construct high-density homes. Lampson also noted that the city may put in purchase electronic billboards and sell advertising as a means of income for the city. 5. National Night Out Commissioners Akers, Cuevas Murillo, and Kunze reflected on the National Night out event and information on how it went. 6. Galt 150 Year Celebration Commissioner Martin gave an update and information on the Galt 150th event to the GYC. The commissioner will be assisting with hay rides. A sign-up sheet to volunteer was circulated. 7. Lights on Afterschool Adult mentor Gordon presented about the October 24th event to the commission. A motion was made to have the youth commission participate at the event. Moved: Stalians Second: Hemenover Ayes:10 Nays: 0 Abstain:0 8. Gallup Strengths Training Mentor Gordon introduced the Gallup Strengths training to the commission and how the commission would integrate it in their work. A motion was made to approve a budget not to exceed $100 to purchase strength finder assessments. Moved: Martin Second: Kunze Ayes:10 Nays: 0 Abstain:0 9. Sacramento County Office of Education Census Project Mentor Gordon noted that the adult mentors are still working on a timeline for the project with Frank Pisi from the Sacramento County Office of Education. 10. Senior Technology Project Commissioner Martin informed the commission that October 2nd, October 16th, October 30th and November 6th will be the next series of dates for the Senior Tech project. The purpose of the project will have commissioners help seniors learn how to use technology. These technology trainings will occur from 3-4pm at the Galt Methodist Church. A sign-up sheet to serve as volunteers was circulated. 11. Adopting a Street Commissioner Cuevas Murillo shared that she is waiting to hear back from the city regarding the requirements to adopt a street. From what she researched, adopting a street is a two year commitment. Her hope is to have the commission adopt Lincoln Avenue. She will provide an update at the next meeting. 12. Art Exhibit Project Commissioners Akers and Rivas provided a conceptual idea of an art exhibit that would include different mediums of art (poetry, photography, drawing) as well as an interactive feature. They are hoping to have the exhibit in February at the Littleton. The commissioners will meet with adult mentor Klotz, who served as the lead mentor for past art exhibits, to discuss next steps. 13. Community Projects for 2019-20 There were no more project ideas. 14. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude Mentors and Commissioners complimented the level of engagement at the meeting. Adult Mentor Klotz shared that a member from the Galt Balloon Festival stopped her to thank the commission for their dedication at the festival.
