CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES COMMUNITY CONFERENCE ROOM, 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2023, 6:30PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE 7:00 B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners Present Akers, Bowman, Brixey, Bulahan, Murillo Cuevas, Cullers, Jones, Lallian, Ortega, Sandhu. Mentors Present Goerzen, King, Lampson, Mayor Vandenburg Absent: Fjeldstad C. PUBLIC COMMENT - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. D. PRESENTATIONS: E. REGULAR BUSINESS: Begin in Community Room 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Lampson went over how elections would run and answered questions. 2. Youth Commission Elections Action Item Chair-Josh Cullers Vice Chair-Alexa Murillo Cuevas Secretary-Alexia Bulahan Treasurer-Kayson Jones Fund Raising Chair-Kareena Lallian Sg of Arms-Mikey Brixey Council Liaison-Gabrielle Akers Media Relations-Alexis Ortega Meeting adjourned 7:11 Meeting reconvened in Council Chambers 7:16 3. Approval of minutes for the meeting of August 7, 2023 Action Item Motion made by Jones, second Bulahan. Motion passed 10-0 4. Youth Commissioner Apparel Action Item Commissioners budgeted an additional $200 towards hoodies. $300 left in budget allotment, hoodie quote $450. Motion Brixey, second Ortega 5. Old Galt Festival Sept 23rd Information Item Mentor Goerzen asked everyone to help at festival Friday after school and 6am Saturday morning. 6. Lincoln Way adopt a street Information Item September Clean-up cancelled due to Galt Old Town Festival. October 21 and November 18th. Dec cancelled. 7. Yearly Activities brainstorming Discussion Item Senior technology help-need to coordinate with Commission on Aging Library Project-Possibly spread and share Amazon wish list for Library needs Eggstravaganza fundraiser Lighting of the Night Independence Day Celebration Random acts of kindness-February, need to form committee if voted affirmative Serve at the A-Z foundation Veterans Dinner Movie Night-Oct 27 (same as Dairy Bowl) Scholarships-will need to form committee Trick or treat downtown-Oct 28. Need to ask for Candy donations 8. Future Agenda Items Information Item Breakfast for Special Needs Youth Survey Interact Fashion show/college fair Transition partner 9. Youth Commissioner Apparel Action Item Recommendation: Budget additional $200 towards hoodies. $300 left in budget allotment, hoodie quote $450. 5.
