MINUTES OF THE GALVESTON CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING-August 11TH, 2020 I. DECLARATION OF A QUORUM AND CALL MEETING TO ORDER a. With a quorum present, the meeting was called to order at 2:09pm Present: Chairman Nick Barbee, Becky Major, Pat Jakobi, Ken Shelton, Michael Woody, and Dr. Craig Brown b. Review Minutes: July minutes will be reviewed in September’s meeting c. Word on the street – Galveston Art League is having openings for nonmembers to submit work. A mural will be painted on August 13th at Stewart Beach. d. Public Comment on agenda items II. REPORTS a. Cultural Arts Masterplan progress (Joshua Ojeda). Core team is established and advisory committee is being formed. Joshua is creating a cultural asset list of all galleries, theaters, museums, and murals. – Michael Woody added that these will live on the Visit Galveston App which is available now. III. DISCUSSION a. City Flag CFP i. Aim to have CFP available by September 1, 2020. ii. Press release: Motion to move dates to first paragraph of the press release by Pat Jakobi, seconded by Michael Woody. b. CAC Artist Grant CFP i. Timeline - Legal needs to review the CFP. ii. Coppini Sculpture - Pat Jakobi expressed concern about the sculpture receiving funds without the call sent out at-large for other proposals. Ken Shelton makes a motion to grant $10,000 towards the sculpture once approved by legal and City Council – noting that this is an exception to standard procedures due to its timely opportunity with the new City Park. Becky Major seconded. Motion passes with all in favor. IV. NO ACTION ITEMS V. ADJOURNMENT: 3:14pm a. Motion to adjourn by Nick Barbee, seconded by Michael Woody.
