MINUTES OF THE GILBERT TOWN COUNCIL, IN SPECIAL MEETING OF TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2020 AT 5:00 PM, MUNICIPAL CENTER 1, COUNCIL CHAMBERS 50 E CIVIC CENTER DRIVE, GILBERT, ARIZONA COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Jenn Daniels, Vice Mayor Scott Anderson, Councilmembers Brigette Peterson, Jordan Ray, Jared Taylor, and Aimee Yentes COUNCIL ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Town Manager Patrick Banger, Town Clerk Lisa Maxwell, and Town Attorney Christopher Payne AGENDA ITEM CALL TO ORDER Mayor Daniels called the meeting to order at 5:06 p.m. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS 1. COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION - conduct interviews for the vacant Town Council seat with a term ending January 2021. Mayor Daniels welcomed the candidates. Town Clerk Maxwell announced the candidates would be interviewed in the following order: Yung Koprowski, Todd Jorgenson, Jan Simon, Kathleen Dowler, Scott September, Bill Spence, Amanda Shaffie and Noah Mundt. Each applicant had the opportunity to provide a two minute opening statement, respond to six questions, and provide a one minute closing statement. RECESS SPECIAL MEETING AND RECONVENE IN EXECUTIVE SESSION A MOTION was made by Councilmember Peterson, seconded by Councilmember Taylor, to recess the Special Meeting and reconvene in Executive pursuant to A.R.S. 38- 431.03(A)(1) to discuss and rank the applications for the vacant Town Council seat with a term ending January 2021. Motion carried 6-0. ADJOURN EXECUTIVE SESSION AND RECONVENE SPECIAL MEETING Mayor Daniels reconvened the Special Meeting at 8:08 p.m. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS 1 2. COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION - discussion, voting, and selection of a Councilmember to fill the vacant Town Council seat with a term ending January 2021. Mayor Daniels expressed the Councilmembers’ gratitude for the work all the candidates do for the Town of Gilbert. A MOTION was made by Vice Mayor Anderson, seconded by Councilmember Peterson, to appoint Bill Spence to the vacant Town Council seat with a term ending in January 2021. Motion carried 6-0.
