ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS 1. COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION - consider adoption of a Resolution approving a new Gilbert logo and brand. Town Manager Patrick Banger stated the proposed logo and branding was started about two years ago in anticipation of Gilbert’s Centennial. He said the initiative would be done at a measured pace and would have minimal cost. He noted the majority of the new branding would be digital in nature, adding current materials and supplies would be used before more were reordered. Chief Digital Officer Dana Berchman shared a video and presentation of the new logo and branding. She stated it was a great way to celebrate Gilbert’s 100th birthday and would be launched to the public on November 18, 2020. She highlighted the design details and inspiration for the concept. She noted the tagline, “Shaping a new tomorrow, today,” adding the logo represented vibrancy and a youthful community. Councilmember September thanked staff for their work on the project, stating it was a great presentation that explained the logo’s shapes and colors. He said he liked the tagline but felt the logo should communicate something without a presentation. He applauded the efforts to get input from the community but said he was disappointed that there was not communication with the Council along the way. 1 Vice Mayor Koprowski thanked Officer Berchman and the Digital Team for their work. She stated the colors and the entire logo brand brought joy and vibrancy, adding she looked forward to seeing the Town embrace it into the future. Councilmember Spence thanked the Digital Team, adding he enjoyed the color palette and font. He stated his concern was not so much with the product but with the process, noting the Council’s willingness to be a part of all aspects of policy development. He discussed the water tower as a trademark, adding he was looking forward to different iterations of the branding and thought the colors and tagline were “spot-on”. Councilmember Tilque discussed the process of branding and the period of time needed for the public to get used to it. She stated she was looking forward to opportunities where the Council could be included sooner. She said she liked the option of bringing in some of the traditional photos and representations to help the community warm up to it, noting she did like the tagline, presentation, and blue background. Mayor Anderson discussed being a part of Gilbert’s current logo, adding the new logo should support the City of the Future initiative and thought it represented that. A MOTION was made by Vice Mayor Koprowski, seconded by Councilmember Tilque, to approve Item 1. Motion carried 6-1, with Councilmember September casting the dissenting vote.
