Leisure and Recreation Committee

The Village Administration Committee met on Monday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the Village Board room, 316 Brad Street S, Grantsburg, WI 54840. Present: Chairman Maurice (DJ) Henderson Trustee Diane Barton Trustee Leo Janke Others: Clerk/Treasurer Sheila Meyer Pool Manager Julie Fiedler Trustee Greg Peer Chairman Henderson called the Leisure & Rec Committee Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Julie Fiedler, Pool Manager a. Weather Guidelines b. Hours c. Membership & daily fees Julie Fiedler approached the committee for guidance on the above items to help the pool run more cost-efficiently stretching the recently fundraised money as far as possible. Fiedler reviewed a report that provided some guidance for pool closings due to weather conditions in the event of cool temps and rain. The committee discussed the need for consistency in pool closings. The committee felt it would be appropriate to close the pool if the high temperature for the day is below 65 degrees and/or rain is expected the majority of the day. It was requested that whichever weather platform is used to determine closings be posted at the pool, on Facebook, and the Village website so the public can plan accordingly. Fiedler presented new pool hours be daily from 1pm to 6pm. She felt there were very few swimmers during the last hour and ending open swimming earlier would allow time for highly attended exercise classes and frequently requested parent/child swim lesson classes. The committee chose to remove lap-swim as it has been poorly attended and suggested making notes of any requests received this season. Fiedler discussed fees and membership pricing with the committee. The committee felt they should leave pricing the same after all the donations and support the community provided to keep the pool open this season. Lifeguard training will be held May 26-27 and the pool will open June 5. Fielder is planning events to be held at the pool this year, improving shade options, and hosting parent/child swim lessons.
