Leisure and Recreation Committee

The Village Rec & Leisure Committee met on Wednesday, September 6 at 5:00 p.m. in the Village Board room, 316 Brad Street S, Grantsburg, WI 54840. Present: Chairman Trustee DJ Henderson Trustee Diane Barton Trustee Leo Janke Others: DPW John Erickson Administrative Assistant Larissa Lee Chairman Henderson called the Rec & Leisure Committee Meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Memory Lake Campground - Wi-Fi update & monthly cost, Seasonal Camping agreement, 2024 camping rates The committee reviewed a quote from Grantsburg Telcom for installing wi-fi service at the campground and the monthly cost for the service. The committee felt this is a common amenity that is offered frequently at other campgrounds and should be offered here as well. Administrative Assistant Lee said wi-fi is the number one requested amenity amongst both seasonal and short-term guests. The committee discussed that the service needs to be password protected. The committee also discussed how the cost will need to be covered in the camping rates. Trustee Barton indicated that the $50 increase in 2022 was in anticipation for wi-fi service and would help with the installation costs. Motion by Trustee Janke second by Trustee Barton to recommend the Village Board accept the quote from Grantsburg Telcom for installing wi-fi and provide monthly service for the season at the campground. Motion carried. The committee reviewed the 2024 draft seasonal camper agreement. Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Longhenry indicated it was discussed in 2022 to get the deposit closer to 30-40% of the seasonal rate. She also indicated the agreement only had minor changes to dates and removal of wait list language under Camping Rules & Regulations #6. Motion by Trustee Janke second by Trustee Barton to recommend the Village Board approve the 2024 draft seasonal camper agreement as presented and to increase the deposit to $500. Motion carried. The committee reviewed the campground rate comparisons included in their packet. They discussed the differences in amenities and felt our current rates were too low. The committee discussed options for rate increases to help cover the costs of wi-fi service. Motion by Trustee Barton second by Trustee Janke to recommend the Village Board increase camping rates as follows; nightly camper $50, weekly $250, monthly $750, regular seasonal $1775 and river seasonal $1825.
