Public Safety Committee

The Village Public Safety Committee met on Thursday, September 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the Village Board room, 316 Brad Street S, Grantsburg, WI 54840. Present: Chairman Greg Peer Trustee Diane Barton Trustee John McNally Others: Clerk/Treasurer Sheila Meyer Officer Andrew Tyler Police Office Administrator Larissa Lee Mike & Pam Plasch Chairman Greg Peer called the Public Safety Committee Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Property Maintenance questions & review. Officer Tyler and Office Administrator Lee provided the committee with photos of property maintenance progress on several properties. The committee reviewed initial photos and updated photos to determine the next course of action for each. After reviewing, the committee directed Police Department staff to issue three citations, two lawn maintenance letters, and multiple letters indicating further efforts in property clean-up is required to avoid citations. The committee was made aware that one property that had received a citation has chosen to take the issue to a jury trial scheduled later this fall. Mike and Pam Plasch requested to be placed on the Village Board agenda for Monday, September 9th then left the meeting at 6:03 pm. The committee reviewed an anonymous complaint regarding a specific property within the Village. The committee instructed the Police Department to investigate the complaint and provide follow-up if necessary. Natural Lawn Ordinance. The committee clarified that the Village’s current lawn ordinance is similar to area municipalities. They felt the ordinance should remain as is and individuals requesting to keep a lawn natural would have to make application to the Village and provide a detailed plan for review. Motion by Trustee McNally second by Trustee Barton to recommend the Village Board leave ordinance §415-2 Natural lawns as written. Motion carried. The committee set their next meeting for Thursday, October 10th at 5:00 pm. Motion by Trustee Barton second by Trustee McNally to adjourn at 6:18 pm. Motion carried.
