CITY COUNCIL MEETING June 10 , 2019 The Greenville City Council convened in the Council Chamber at City Hall on Monday, June 10, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. for a regular meeting. Mayor Dexter McLendon called the meeting to order. City Clerk- Treasurer Dee H. Blackmon called the roll and recorded the following members present: Mayor McLendon, Councilmembers Bryan Reynolds, Ed Sims, Tommy Ryan, Jimmy Lawson and Boris Thigpen. Mayor McLendon led those attending in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. Councilmember Ryan delivered the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mayor McLendon advised each councilmember had received for review a copy of the proposed minutes for the Regular Council Meeting held on May 20, 2019. He asked if there were any additions, deletions or amendments to the minutes as presented. Councilmember Thigpen moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes and approve the minutes for May 20, 2019 as drafted . Councilmember Lawson seconded the motion. Mayor McLendon announced the motion carried with a unanimous vote of the Council. CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION PRESENTED TO GREENVILLE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT BOARD MEMBER T.A. NEWTON. Mayor McLendon and the City Council honored Board of Adjustment member T.A. Newton for his thirty- three years of service to the City of Greenville as a Board of Adjustment Board Member. He served the city as vice-chairman of the board for 15 years. He was presented a plaque of appreciation from the City with son Greg and city friends present. Mayor McLendon thanked T.A. for his commitment and service to all our citizens in Greenville and Butler County. APPROVAL OF EXPENDITURES: Councilmember Sims made a motion to approve the following expenditures: D & T EMERGENCY LIGHTING - $2,950.00 (DRUG TASK FORCE WILL REIMB $1,056.83 & $1,893.17 WILL BE PAID FROM CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND) EQUIPMENT & LABOR FOR NEW DRUG TASK FORCE VEHICLE SUNBELT FIRE - $2,465.00 (BUDGETED ITEM TO BE PAID FROM CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND) ONE SET OF TURNOUT GEAR FOR FIRE DEPT. SUNBELT FIRE - $4,243.60 REPAIRS TO ENGINE 42 GREENVILLE TIRE - $1,175.32 TWO (2) TIRES FOR #10 BACKHOE Councilmember Ryan seconded the motion. Mayor McLendon announced the motion carried with unanimous vote of the Council. WEED AND DEBRIS VIOLATIONS: A. SMITH, ERNEST L & ELIZABETH I 305 SOUTH CONECUH 10 08 06 24 3 000 030.000 B. USDA 321 Depot Street 103 GLENDALE AVE. 10 08 06 14 2 002 031.000 Councilmember Lawson moved to proceed to the next step of compliance for two weed and debris violations – Item B pursuant to the City’s Code of Ordinances , and thereby authorized properties to be cleared at the owners ’ expense and the City Clerk to bill property owner for services and grant a 10- day extension to Item A. Councilmember Reynolds seconded the motion. Mayor McLendon announced the motion carried with a unanimous vote of the Council. BOARD APPOINTMENTS: Councilmember Reynolds moved to reappoint the following board members: GREENVILLE BUTLER COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD – MRS. STEPHANIE GRAYSON INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD – JIM DUNKLIN, TYLER CARTER AND JIMMIE LAWRENCE THE YMCA PUBLIC PARK & RECREATION BOARD – JIM DUNKLIN Councilmember Sims seconded the motion. Mayor McLendon announced the motion carried with a unanimous vote of the Council. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND ADJOURNMENT: Mayor McLendon announced the next regular council meeting will be held Monday, June 24, 2019.
