3. Presentation by the Greenville Memorial Pool Committee
Greenville Memorial Pool Committee gave a power point presentation on the plan for the
revitalization of the Memorial Swimming Pool, followed by a brief question and answer
period.
4. Council Comments
Councilor Auchter commented that it is a large scale project, but thinks that it is the only
way a pool will last and added that a year around usable pool is the only way to go. Thinks
that once others see what is going on with the project then they will want to get involved.
Councilor Heathcote commented that she used the pool when she was young and wants
other to be able to enjoy the same.
Councilor Shaw thanked the pool committee for all the work they have done. He added
that other communities that he lived in had similar pools and where used a lot by the
community members.
Councilor Peden wants a community pool again, but is concerned with the maintenance
and upkeep of a new facility. Challenged local community clubs to step in and help with
the project.
Councilor Jones liked the new pool plans and liked the idea of previous graduate classes of
Greenville High School donating $5,000 to help build the new pool. Also wants the
committee to consider installing a memorial brick sidewalk.
Councilor D’Alfonso thanked the pool committee for their hard work and dedication to the
project.
5. Mayor Comments
Mayor Stephens thank the pool committee for their hard work. Wants to know how much
it is going to cost to operate the pool after it is built. He has concerns that the cost is going
to be more than what the pool will bring in in revenue and adds that a partnership with an
organization would probably be the way to offset those costs. Publically thanked Leanna
Mayberry for all of her fundraising efforts.
6. Council President Comments
Council President Shipley commended the pool committee for their hard work and
dedication to the project
7. Borough Manager Comments
Mr. Urey commended the pool committee for such a great job that they have done. He
added that it was no small task that they each undertook, but he sees the commitment and
dedication that each one of them have to the community.
