Citizens’ Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Meeting of the Citizens’ Recreation Commission was held on May 12, 2026 at Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. CALLED TO ORDER: 7:05 p.m. PRESENT: ABSENT: Amanda York Lindsay Frattaroli Amanda Starkey Melinda Billingsley Gib Heim Jason Gaidis Dave Andrews Barbara Janutol Abby Klotz ALSO PRESENT: Owen Gafa, Director of Parks and Recreation Angela Coletti Brown, Council Representative APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA: Motion was made for acceptance of the agenda for May 12, 2026 by Starkey and seconded by Klotz. Approval of motion: Yes: Heim, Gaidis, Andrews, Janutol, Klotz, Starkey, York No: None Absent: Billingsley, Frattaroli APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Motion was made for the approval of minutes from April 14, 2026 by Janutol and seconded by Heim. Approval of motion: Yes: Heim, Gaidis, Andrews, Janutol, Klotz, Starkey, York No: None Absent: Billingsley, Frattaroli COUNCIL REPORT: 1  Basketball courts and bike racks for Ghesquiere Park were added to an upcoming committee meeting. Date TBD.  SpringFest was a strong success and received accolades from the public. DIRECTOR’S REPORT:  Pool opening on 23rd and on track.  Running multiple lifeguard classes.  Spring tennis for youth is full.  Archery lessons live with tennis sign up on May 29th.  Golf simulator opening May 18. TREASURER’S REPORT:  Reimbursement for York pending. OLD BUSINESS:  Review Committee Assignments – Gaidis and Andrews swap committee assignments. o Spring Fest - Klotz, Billingsley, York o Bike Ride - Klotz, Starkey, Billingsley o Fishing Derby - Heim, Janutol, Gaidis o Fall Event - Klotz, Klotz, Starkey, Billingsley o WinterFest - Frattaroli, Andrews, York NEW BUSINESS:  Bike ride subcommittee – Klotz and Starkey. o Billingsley stepped down. o On community calendar and working out final details and volunteers. o Flyer posted.  Fishing derby – Subcommittee Heim, Janutol, Gaidis o Janutol sent in forms to city. o Discussion on spirit wear and suppliers. o Estimated 100 in attendance. o York to handle flyers. o Donors for poles, sinkers, swimmers, and bate.  Youth advisory commission subcommittee discussed and proceeding with planning. Motion was made for the approval of CFB funds to purchase two banners promoting the Fishing Derby by Gib and seconded by York. Approval of motion: Yes: Heim, Gaidis, Andrews, Janutol, Klotz, Starkey, York 2 No: None Absent: Billingsley, Frattaroli Public comment: Parks and Recreation Director opened discussion on giving awards to Snow Creation Contest. Motion was made to recognize Snow Creation contest winners at a future city council meeting and award plaques by Starkey and seconded by Klotz. Approval of motion: Yes: Heim, Gaidis, Andrews, Janutol, Klotz, Starkey, York No: None Absent: Billingsley, Frattaroli ADJOURNMENT: Motion was made to adjourn by York and seconded by Janutol.
