FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MEETING –Minutes Village of Hales Corners, WI
November 20, 2024 5635 S. New Berlin Road
President Riemer called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.
1.0 Roll Call – Present: Commission President Riemer, Commissioners; Schwartz and Smyczek. Staff:
Police Chief Cera, Fire Chief Jaskulski, Fire Captain Hammernik. Excused Absent: Commissioners;
Dzick and Mixon. Trustee Liaison Chesney. Audience: Kevin Rentz. Brian Gardner.
2.0 General Business
2.1 Action Items
2.1.1 Appointment of Fire Captain-Paramedic – Chief Jaskulski introduced Kevin Rentz to
the Commission advising that he has been selected from a list of candidates for the
current Firefighter – Paramedic vacancy. Rentz provided details regarding his
educational background, previous work in the field of education and transition to
Emergency Medical and Fire Services. He strongly expressed a love of service and
community. Riemer asked about his previous related employment and Rentz provided
some detail. Schwartz asked Jaskulski if all that was presented has been vetted.
Jaskulski replied in the affirmative and recommended that Rentz be appointed to the
position. A motion was made (Smyczek/Schwartz) to appoint Rentz to the position of
Firefighter-Paramedic, effective November 21st, 2024 and subject to a one-year
probationary period. Motion passed 3-0-2.
3.0 Adjournment – Motion (Schwartz/Smyczek) to adjourn at 6:41 PM. Motion passed 3-0-2.

and time at the Hales Corners Firehouse (Training Room), 10000 W. Forest Home Avenue, Hales Corners.

2.1.1 Approve appointment K. Rentz to the position of fulltime Firefighter - Paramedic.
Notice is given that - the Commission may enter closed session pursuant to Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c), as is required
for considering the employment, promotion, compensation, or performance evaluation data for any public
employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility to discuss the contractual
elements of the recommended candidate, and to re-enter open session at the same place thereafter to act on such
matters as discussed therein as it deems appropriate.
