FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MEETING –Minutes Village of Hales Corners, WI
October 29, 2024 5635 S. New Berlin Road
President Riemer called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.
1.0 Roll Call – Present: Commission President Riemer, Commissioners; Dzick, Schwartz and Smyczek.
Staff: Police Chief Cera, Fire Chief Jaskulski and Trustee Liaison Chesney. Excused Absent:
Commissioner Mixon. Audience: Mark Witt
2.0 General Business
2.1 Action Items
2.1.1 Appointment of Fire Captain-Paramedic – Chief Jaskulski advised that this position
can be effectively filled by a candidate who is willing to commit to a contract
arrangement which offsets the cost of any training the candidate may require related to
the position. He then introduced Hales Corners Firefighter-EMT Mark Witt to the
members. Witt provided a summary of his professional background, advised that the
culture of the department is attractive to him and he sees this promotion as a big
opportunity to give back to the department through the mentoring of younger personnel.
He answered questions from Commissioners which again emphasized the attractive
atmosphere of the department and recognition of the opportunity. Chief Jaskulski stated
that Witt was recommended for the position by another Fire Chief and staff members.
He further advised that Witt already has experience under filling the position since
vacant. Chief Jaskulski requested Witt be appointed to the position. A motion was
made (Smyczek/Dzick) to promote Mark Witt to the position of Fire Captain-Paramedic,
effective November 3rd, 2024 and subject to a one-year probationary period. Motion
passed 4-0-1.
3.0 Adjournment –Motion (Schwartz/Smyczek) to adjourn at 6:40 PM. Motion passed 4-0-1.

2.1.1 Approve appointment M. Witt to the position of fulltime Firefighter - Paramedic.
Notice is given that - the Commission may enter closed session pursuant to Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c), as is required
for considering the employment, promotion, compensation, or performance evaluation data for any public
employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility to discuss the contractual
elements of the recommended candidate, and to re-enter open session at the same place thereafter to act on such
matters as discussed therein as it deems appropriate.
