Citizens’ Unity Commission Monthly Meeting Minutes Thursday, December 14, 2023 6:00 -8:00pm Community Development Conference Room, City Hall, 5th floor Attendance: Katrina Bailey, Jennifer Evans, Brad Young, Chris Grady, Malik Perry, Dawn James- Taylor, Phyllis Porter, Samantha Snead, Shuntay Tarver, Ellen Velissarios, Steven Loncar, Raquel McMillan, Vidal Dickerson, Tamika Lett, Mei Stukes, Steven Wendell Staff: Imara Gabe Diaz, Mariah Roederer Absent: Kathreen Tadrous (AN), F. Gregg Horne (A), Natalie Cumpson (AN), Assistant City Manager Steve Bond (AN) Call to Order – Ellen Velissarios, Chairperson @ 6:17 pm Roll Call – Mariah Roederer, Program Coordinator Welcome Old Business Review and Approval of Meeting Minutes – Commissioners were given time for review and approval of the meeting minutes from 11/09/23. A motion to approve was made by Commissioner Dawn James Taylor and 2nd by Commissioner Katrina Bailey. New Business Item 1: FOIA Briefing – Meredith Jacobi, City Attorney’s Office provided the commissioners with a training covering the Freedom of Information Act as well as their responsibilities related to FOIA request. Item 2: Unity Awards – Gabe Diaz deferred continued conversation of Unity Awards until sub- committee in person date could be decided. Action Items Community Service Project was completed by CUC Commissioners and YAG members including wrapping gifts for upcoming toy drive in the North Phoebus Area, 249 Ninja Toy Drive, which will be taking place on December 17, 2023. 1 Announcements  249 Ninja Toy Drive and Food Give Away, Sunday December 17th at 11am at Phoebus High School  Hampton Diversity College Level II begins in January 2024  Unity Awards at the American Theatre, February Adjourned 8:02 pm by Chairperson Ellen Velissarios 2
