HAMPTON COMMISSION ON THE ARTS MEETING MINUTES May 4, 2017 -- Hampton Youth Creative and Performing Arts Center Attending Present: Rick Allison, Rick Bagley, Lynda Burke, Derrick Brooks, Linda Curtis, Jim Dees, Laura Fitzpatrick, Richard M. Parison, Jr., Terri Vander Vennet, Jackie Merritt Absent: Nancy Eason, Gail Rehmert Called to Order In the absence of the Chair, Linda Curtis called the meeting to order at 4:02pm Consent Agenda Items Items on the Consent Agenda were approved as read. These include the minutes from the previous meeting and the report from the Artistic Director. Chair Report The Report from the Chair was dispensed with and Linda Curtis turned to the meeting over to Artistic Director, Richard Parison. Mr. Parison introduced Hugo Morrison, Manager of the Youth Creative and Performing Arts Center. Mr. Morrison gave the Commission a tour of the building and reviewed the programming of the center and how it impacts our city’s youth through the creative and performing arts. The tour and programming conversation were enlightening and very beneficial for the Commissioners. Creative Placemaking Artistic Director, Richard Parison, turned the remainder of the meeting over to Alison Alexander, Director of Placemaking for the City of Hampton to discuss the genesis of the Hampton Placemaking project. Ms. Alexander, in partnership with Laura Fitzpatrick, proceeded to discuss the placemaking engagement with the Commissioners and how the HCA could be an idea generator for Placemaking in Hampton. Handouts given to the Commission will be attached to next months minutes. New Business There was no new business Next Meeting Our next meeting is Thursday June 1, 2017 at 4pm at THE AMERICAN THEATRE Adjourn There being no further business before the Commission, Ms. Burke moved to adjourn, Mr. Allison seconded. The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 5:15 PM.
