HAMPTON COMMISSION ON THE ARTS MEETING MINUTES June 1, 2017 – The American Theatre Attending Present: Rick Allison, Lynda Burke, Derrick Brooks, Linda Curtis, Jim Dees, Laura Fitzpatrick, Richard M. Parison, Jr., Terri Vander Vennet, Nancy Eason, Gail Rehmert Called to Order Ms. Eason called the meeting to order at 4:05pm Minutes The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. Chair Report Ms. Eason gave a brief update on the status of Arts in Education projects. She indicated that Hampton High School would present to the Commission in person, the fall. Artistic Director’s Report Mr. Parison reported on the year end activities of the Hampton Art Division and also gave update on some of the collaborative efforts between the Youth and Creative Arts Center and Hampton Arts. Ms. Burke commented on the excitement of the Youth and Creative Arts Center and the quality of the art from the participants. There was general consensus about the good work being done there. Creative Placemaking There was follow up conversation about the Creative Placemaking conversation from last month. General thoughts and ideas included the public space around the Carousel, Public Art Competitions, Sidewalk Painting and a number of other ideas and thoughts were discussed. New Business There was no new business Next Meeting Our next meeting is Thursday September 7, 2017 at 4pm at THE AMERICAN THEATRE Adjourn There being no further business before the Commission, Mr. Dees moved to adjourn, Ms. Rehmert seconded. The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 4:50 PM.
