Hampton Electoral Board Meeting
May 3, 2023 10:00 a.m., Registrar’s Office
In attendance: Tom Harmon, Matt Scott, Rebecca Winn, Tara Morgan
Guest: James Avery (left at 11:43 a.m.)
Meeting was called to order at 10:18 a.m.
Security docs are completed and signed. One application of this process is
that we are paying attention again to ADA requirements in each precinct, to
assist voters.
We discussed the request made by this board to the City Manager for
designated parking at the office as voters need easier access than is possible
most days. Tara reports that she is in contact with Carol Bowen on this
matter.
Discussion about the training opportunities coming up for EB members. Tom
and Rebecca have been to a Boot Camp this year. Matt is likely to go to
Richmond for the July 20 training. There is also a webinar on July 12
addressing legislative changes that are being enacted this year. The video will
be online after its release.
We discussed utilizing the guidelines put out by the US Election Assistance
Commission for the “I Voted” sticker contest. We will review the information
available for the next meeting.
Four precincts have been visited (report attached) so far. May 10, 9:00 a.m.,
we will meet to visit more precincts. Reports will be given to the city to begin
improvements. The goal is to have as much done as possible by Election Day
in November. Tara reminded us that the Registrar’s office is a voting precinct.
There are some notable needs here.
The meeting was at ease from 10:55 until 11:10 a.m.
EB must appoint or reappoint Registrar by June 30. Our evaluation of the
Registrar will be done by then so it can be used in the process.
At our next meeting we will begin to set the dates for Officer of Election
training for the November Election.
A Security Grant has been applied for. We hope to have more cameras, panic
buttons, upgrades on the office doors, and cages for voting equipment for
each precinct.
Meeting was adjourned at 12:11 p.m.
Our next regularly scheduled meeting is June 7, 10:00 p.m. at the Registrar’s
Office.
Sincerely Submitted,
Matt Scott, Secretary
