Call to Order:
At 12:14p.m., Ms. Hutton called the meeting to order. The question was raised if in the January meeting, a Chairman
and Vice Chairman were to be voted on. Ms. Melochick advised that there were no bylaws or statues that dictated this
being done at a specified time. Discussion was tabled for the next meeting.
Reading/Approval of Minutes:
Moved by Mr. Ballard and seconded by Mr. Newman to approve the minutes of the November 22, 2016, meeting as
presented. The motion passed. New members, Mr. Jenrette and Mr. Perry abstained.
Chair Report/Announcement:
Ms. Hutton chaired the meeting in Mr. Boester’s absence. Ms. Hutton welcomed new members, Mr. Perry and
Mr. Jenrette. Each introduced themselves as well as all members.
Ms. Vander Vennet gave a brief update on the proposed Virginia Beach Arena in regards to the extension of
March 7 granted to US Management by the City of Virginia Beach to complete their funding.
Ms. Hutton asked for the Director’s Report.
Director’s Report:
Ms. Vander Vennet stated in the month of November 2016, the Coliseum had 6 event days and 7 performances
with 19,000 attendees. December had 2 event days and 2 performances with 1,900 attendees.
Upcoming events for February 2017 are World Class Gymnastics, Equipovision Winter Convention and Arena
Racing.
Statement of Revenues and Expenses for the period ending 12/31/16 shows we are behind compared to this same
period 12/31/15. This is due to Disney on Ice attendance being down and not hosting Basslights this year.
Coliseum CIP project update – estimated EMV (credit card) project completion is anytime. The vendor is currently
testing the programming changes. The Loge seats re-upholstery is completed, however the seat back installation is not
according to project specs so vendor is working on a solution. End riser repair begins today and should be completed
by the end of the week. An RFP for handrail construction for the end riser has been submitted to Procurement for
processing. Pricing is being researched for replacement of three original chillers. The first bid came in at $1 million.
19-acre land - no update.
Other Business:
Mr. Lowry asked for clarification on the role of the committee in regards to generating ideas and making suggestions to
the Director in terms of generating more events. Ms. Melochick explained the committee’s role. The committee
requested that the Director provide “Coliseum 101” training in future meetings. Suggestions were to have department
managers share their roles and functions of their departments, discuss the creation and management of the CIP plan,
day to day operations, etc.
Adjournment:
Meeting was adjourned at 12:58p.m.
Next Meeting:
Next Meeting is currently scheduled for Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at 12 noon at the Embassy Suites Hotel.
