Call to Order/Reading and Approval of Minutes:
At 12:05p.m., Chair Boester called the meeting to order.
Motion made by Ms. Hutton to approve the minutes of the June 26, 2017 meeting. Ms. Lawson seconded. The motion
passed.
Chair Report/Announcement:
Nothing to Report.
Director’s Report:
Ms. Vander Vennet stated the month of June ’17 had 14 event days and 12 performances with 74,635
attendees. Events for June were Equipovision, Newport News High School Graduation, Hampton High School
Graduation and Hampton Jazz festival.
July ’17 had 2 event days and 2 performances with 7,807 attendees. Events for July were WWE Live and Katt
Williams.
August ’17 had 8 event days and 6 performances with 23,780 attendees. Events for August were Jehovah’s
Witnesses Convention.
September ’17 had 5 event days and 3 performances with 31,601 attendees. Events for September were Bass
Center X (Bassnectar).
Statement of Revenues and Expenses for the period ending 6/30/17 shows the Coliseum with a net loss for the
2017 Fiscal Year. Compared to FY16, this is due to a decrease in ticket revenues earned from the Carrie
Underwood, Pearl Jam and Amy Schumer events held in FY16.
The American Theatre 2017-2018 Season begins October 7 with Sweet Honey in the Rock. The Hurrah
Player’s ‘The Lion King Experience’ sold out within two weeks of going on sale. A second show was added,
which sold out, and a third was then added which is almost sold out.
Ms. Vander Vennet gave an update on current Coliseum CIP projects.
Old Business:
Chair Boester stated the committee is now going into a closed meeting pursuant to Virginia Code Section 2.2-
3711 (A)(8) for a consultation with legal counsel regarding specific matters requiring legal advice related to
intellectual property and pursuant to Virginia Code Section 2.2-3711(A)(6) to discuss the investment of public
funds where competition or bargaining is involved, where if made public initially, the financial interest of the
governmental unit would be adversely affected. A motion of approval was made by Ms. Hutton and seconded
by Mr. Perry. A roll call vote was conducted and unanimous consent was given.
Doors were closed and closed meeting sign posted. Closed Session Conducted.
Ms. Vander Vennet stated it is now appropriate to take a roll call vote and that to the best of our knowledge (i)
only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements under this chapter, and (ii) only
such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the Closed Meeting was convened were
heard, discussed, or considered in the Closed Meeting. Any member who believes there was a departure from
the requirements of subdivisions (i) and (ii) shall so state prior to the roll call vote, indicating the substance of the
departure that, in his/her judgement has taken place. Such statements shall be recorded in the minutes. No
statements were made. Motion was made by Ms. Hutton and seconded by Mr. Ballard. A roll call vote was
conducted and unanimous consent was given. Doors were opened and closed meeting sign removed.
Other Business:
Chair Boester inquired of the term expiration dates of current members and requested Ms. Vander Vennet contact City
Hall for the current Board Bank candidate applications.

Next Meeting is currently scheduled for Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 12 noon in the Hampton Coliseum’s Hampton
Room.
