Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting – April 24, 2018 Attending: (A) = absent Matthew Ballard (R) Bob Boester ( ) Willie Brown (A) Lynne Hutton (A) Asa Jenrette ( ) Ryan Lowrie (A) Woody Newman ( ) Donte Perry ( ) Samantha Snead ( ) Patricia Melochick (A) Terri Vander Vennet ( ) Bessie Crotts ( ) R=Resigned Call to Order/Reading and Approval of Minutes: At 12:11p.m., Chair Boester called the meeting to order. Motion made by Mr. Newman to approve the minutes of the March 27, 2018 meeting. Mr. Jenrette seconded. The motion passed. Chair Report/Announcement: Chair Boester shared the receipt of resignation from the committee by Matthew Ballard. Director’s Report: Ms. Vander Vennet shared the event statistics for March. March ’18 had 5 event days and 3 performances and 5,185 in attendance. Events were PBR, Spring Jam and Kevin Hart. April ’18 had 1 event day and 1 performance, HCS Freshman Commitment to Graduate Ceremony. Upcoming events for May are Thomas Nelson Community College Graduation, Mother’s Day Celebration concert and WWE. Ms. Vander Vennet gave an update on the financial status for period ending March 31, 2018. Ms. Vander Vennet gave a recap of recent maintenance and repairs. The ice floor was operated this past week and ran at optimal performance. The three original chillers (1969) that operate the building air conditioners need to be replaced. Although they are operating with minimal maintenance, their shells are getting thin and the refrigerant (R11) that is used in them will no longer be available in 2020. Staff are researching and will be starting the procurement process. Estimated cost is around 1 million. Other Business: Ms. Crotts, Box Office Manager for Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts, gave an introduction to the operations of the box office, explaining the ticketing process start to finish and practices of managing a ticketed event. Also discussed was dynamic pricing and handling of ADA seating and the impact of ADA seats being made available to purchase online, at the box office, and over the phone. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 1:21p.m. Next Meeting: Next Meeting is currently scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 12 noon at the Hampton Coliseum in the Hampton Room.
