Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes May 28, 2024 12:00 PM Attending Members: Ryan Lowrie, Chair Linda Curtis, Vice Chair Lynne Hutton Joyce Melvin-Jones Matt Joyner Karen Scott Brad Young Bob Boester, Emeritus Staff Members: Visitors: Terri Vander Vennet, Director Charlie Gardner, Deputy Director Absent: Woody Newman, Andrew Wilson Ben Naidorf, Legal Call to Order and Approval of Minutes: The meeting was called to order at 11:59 AM by Chairman Lowrie. A motion was made by Ms. Hutton to approve the April 23, 2024 meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Ms. Curtis and passed unanimously. Chair Report: Chairman Lowrie welcomed new committee member, Brad Young, who provided members a short introduction. Director Report: The Director provided an update on the Hampton Jazz & Music Festival and positive changes occurring with HU President Williams’ dedication to the festival and his team’s increased participation in planning. Ms. Vander Vennet invited members to stop by the Coliseum to experience an EDM show during the May 31 - June 1 Pretty Lights concert. Other Business: A trademark use agreement has been entered into between the Coliseum and the Oozlefinch Brewery at Fort Monroe. Agreement is with the City Manager for execution. New Business: Mr. Boester led a discussion of the May 25, 2024 incident that occurred outside the Mount Trashmore carnival in Virginia Beach and how a very similar situation occurred in Hampton, bringing an end to the Coliseum’s annual two-week carnival, which had provided affordable family entertainment to our community for many years. Members discussed the Department of Justice’s announcement to sue Live Nation-Ticketmaster for monopolizing markets across the live concert industry.
