MINUTES Hampton Neighborhood Commission Meeting Community Development Department October 14, 2013 Time 5:00 - 5:30PM Present Alice Callahan, District 6 Robin Carpenter, District 7 Pamela Croom, District 2 Ron Davis, City Rep. Opening Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 5:01pm. 1 A. Roll Call and Verification of Quorum Quorum verified. B. Pledge of Allegiance C. Approval of Minutes of the September 9, 2013 Neighborhood Commission Meeting The Chair asked for consideration of the minutes for the September 9, 2013 Neighborhood Commission meeting. Kathy Johnson made a motion to approve the minutes. Karen Duncan seconded the motion. The Chair called for a vote. Chair voiced, “All in favor please say aye.” Response, “aye.” Chair voiced, “Opposed?” Response – none. Minutes approved. D. Chair Announcements • The Chair Elect, Kathy Johnson announced she was stepping down as chair and Angelique Shenk would preside over the meeting duration of the vote for Chair elections. E. Recognitions • Burbank PTA was recognized as newly Registered Neighborhood Organization. Kathy Johnson accepted the certificate on behalf of the Burbank PTA. I. Action Items A. Consideration of the Chair of the Neighborhood Commission • Angelique Shenk, Acting Chair, reported on behalf of the Nominating Committee. The Committee would like to recommend Kathy Johnson as Chair of the Neighborhood Commission. There were no nominations from the floor. The Executive Director called for a vote. AYES: 13- A. Callahan, R. Carpenter, P. Croom, R. Davis, K. Duncan, S. Edwards, B. Franklin, J. Gray, K. Johnson, S. King-Medina, P. Parker, A. Reyes, and T. Southall NAYS: 0 2 ABSTAIN: 0 ABSENT: 7- A. Bane, N. Belew, R. Jones, H. Mills, J. Samuels, P. Todd, A. White, and J. Hart. Motion carried. B. Consideration of Chair-Elect of the Neighborhood Commission • The Nominating Committee would like to recommend Steven Edwards as Chair Elect. There were no additional nominations from the floor. The Chair called for a vote. AYES: 13- A. Callahan, R. Carpenter, P. Croom, R. Davis, K. Duncan, S. Edwards, B. Franklin, J. Gray, K. Johnson, S. King-Medina, P. Parker, A. Reyes, J. Samuels, and T. Southall NAYS: 0 ABSTAIN: 0 ABSENT: 7- A. Bane, N. Belew, R. Jones, H. Mills, P. Todd, A. White, and J. Hart. Motion carried. C. Consideration of Appointments to the Executive Committee • The Nominating Committee would like to recommend the following appointments to the Executive Committee. • Chair of the Neighborhood Commission • Chair-Elect of the Neighborhood Commission • City Manager’s Office • Committee Chairs; i. Nominating, Tommy Southall ii. Grant Review Committee, Karen Duncan iii. Civic Communications, Henry Mills iv. Community Appearance, Pride and Image, Karen Duncan v. Neighborhood-School Partnerships, Ann Bane vi. Youth, Nehemiah Lipford The Chair called for a vote. 3 AYES: 13- A. Callahan, R. Carpenter, P. Croom, R. Davis, K. Duncan, S. Edwards, B. Franklin, J. Gray, S. King-Medina, P. Parker, A. Reyes, J. Samuels, T. Southall and K. Johnson NAYS: 0 ABSTAIN: 0 ABSENT: 7- A. Bane, N. Belew, R. Jones, H. Mills, P. Todd, A. White, and J. Hart. Motion carried. D. Consideration of the Nominating Process for District Commissioners • The Nominating Committee would like to recommend two candidates to City Council for appointment; Chris Henderson (District 3) and John Lowe (District 7). Both were selected based on their interview and qualifications. The committee asked for consideration of the nominating process for Districts 3 and 7. The Chair called for a vote. AYES: 13- A. The public is invited to attend meetings and to observe the work and deliberations of the Neighborhood Commission. The public may also address the Neighborhood Commission during the agenda item “Items to be Presented by the Public” by signing up to speak. The sign-up sheet will be available to the public until the agenda item “Items to be Presented by the Public” is reached in the course of the meeting.
