The public is invited to attend meetings and to observe the work and deliberations of the Neighborhood Commission. The public may also address the Neighborhood Commission during the agenda item “Items to be Presented by the Public” by signing up to speak. The sign-up sheet will be available to the public until the agenda item “Items to be Presented by the Public” is reached in the course of the meeting. VSSCDBC Advocate Group = approved as an RNO i. Gabby Hayes was present to give committee an update on organization’s goals, boundaries, and mission III. Discussion and Action Items a. The first topic was the Community Connections grant application. Cashayla and Goncalo explained the guide sheet, including how ranking criteria/scoring would hypothetically work. b. Jonathan remarked that it should be easier for neighborhoods to apply to hold community events through the Community Connections grant and that was met with universal agreement. Applicants no longer need to be an RNO. c. Jonathan went over revisions. A motion was made, seconded, and passed unanimously. This item will go to the full commission in February. IV. Council has decided not to pursue assessments for 2023 and annual pool grants have been greenlighted. Applications will be reviewed in March and ready for April approval. Four pools met the criteria to be eligible for grants this season. V. Other Business a. None. ACTION REQUESTED: None BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Cynthia Harris and Wendy Iles, staff support for the Hampton Clean City Commision (HCCC), will present an overview on the Commission and potential avenues for partnerships between the HCCC and the Hampton Neighborhood Commission (HNC). NEXT STEPS (If Applicable): • Poll Neighborhood Commissioners’ interest in fire station clean ups and Adopt a Spot partnerships. • Connect HNC and Clean City Commissioners where appropriate. • Follow up on ideas generated from the briefing. As an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc., we share the philosophy that each of us has a responsibility for enhancing our community environment. Beautification Litter and Recycling  Adopt-A-Spot • The Adopt-A-Spot Program provides support and recognition to those who share their time, expertise, and enthusiasm with us in helping to keep Hampton clean and beautiful. • The Adopt-A-Spot Program includes an opportunity to beautify entryways, plant beds, planters, and other areas as approved by the City, Parks, Public Works, and/or School Principals. • Only sites safe for volunteers will be considered for the program. • Landscape maintenance (weeding, mulching, and watering, for example) • Litter clean up four times per year. Cigarette Litter Prevention Program AAS-Beautification Coastal Awareness • Beach & Shoreline Clean ups • Rain Barrel workshops • Water monitoring • Stormwater education • Pet Waste education • Pet Waste station grants • Bay Star Homes certification • Special projects Clean & Green Workplaces School Pride in Action Keep America Beautiful Affiliate Keep Virginia Beautiful Affiliate Adopt-A-Spot Adopt-A-Spot – Beautification Beautification Y.A.R.D.S.
