Citizens’ Unity Commission Monthly Meeting Minutes Thursday, March 9, 2023 6:00 -8:00pm Community Development Conference Room, City Hall, 5th floor Attendance: Katrina Bailey, Alice Capehart, Jennifer Evans, Malik Perry, Ellen Velissarios, Steven Wendell, Samantha Snead, Raquel McMillan, Dawn James-Taylor, Kathreen Tadrous, Gretchen Nelson, Vidal Dickerson, Phyliss Porter Staff: Imara Gabe Diaz, Assistant City Manager Steve Bond Absent: Chris Grady (AN) Brad Young (AN), Shuntay Tarver (AN) Call to Order – Ellen Velissarios, Chairperson @ 6:01 pm Roll Call – Imara Gabe Diaz, Executive Director Old Business Item 1: Review and Approval of Meeting Minutes –Chairperson Ellen Velissarios called for a motion to approve and adopt the meeting minutes for 1/12/2023 with suggested corrections. A motion to approve was made by Commissioner Malik Perry and a 2nd by Commissioner Katrina Bailey. Item 2: Movie Talks Recap – Commissioner Dawn James-Taylor offered comments about the event and commended the youth engagement during the conversation. Points to consider moving forward were to create better signage to direct participants to the proper location. Item 3: Hampton 2040 Status – Executive Director Gabe Diaz gave a presentation to offer the Commission an update to the Hampton 2040 Community Plan. During the presentation, Gabe asked each commissioner to offer feedback to the 7 strategic priority groups’ Vision & Goal statements. 38 responses were recorded and will be delivered to the Hampton 2040 Oversight Committee for review. The next community check point meeting is schedule for mid-August.
