The public is invited to attend meetings and to observe the work and deliberations of the Neighborhood Commission. The public may also address the Neighborhood Commission during the agenda item “Items to be Presented by the Public” by signing up to speak. The sign-up sheet will be available to the public until the agenda item “Items to be Presented by the Public” is reached in the course of the meeting. Claude Vann and Margaret Wilson spoke on behalf of the foundation – sharing the legacy of Aberdeen Gardens, making history accessible to the neighborhood, and revitalization. ii. Neighborhood events include Back-to-School drives and partnerships with HPD police cadets. iii. Committee voted to approve the RNO application. III. Discussion and Action Items i. RNO Reregistration & Removal ii. Equitable Grant Access 1. Committee discussed best practices for equitable distribution of grant resources. a. Commissioners examined map of grant recipients over a ten-year period. b. Focused specifically on pockets of neighborhoods that are under resourced.  c. Equitable Grant Access 1. Committee recapped the November discussion and next steps for ongoing exploration a. Commissioners will explore other examples of places that successfully approach their grant programs with equity. b. Commissioners will continue to think about intended outcomes of the grant program. IV. Status Updates a. Grant Submissions i. Michael’s Woods Community Committee – Places & Spaces Intent to Apply 1. Guests from Michael’s Woods Community Committee presented their intention to apply for funding for entryway signage.  2. Neighborhood Commissioners and city staff discussed the ongoing review of Michael’s Woods Community Committee’s Intent to Apply and highlighted the need for additional research before making final recommendations. The focus is on determining eligibility for city grant funding, compliance with zoning ordinances, and the feasibility of an encroachment request for sign placement in the Right of Way (ROW). 3. Staff to provide summary of research, progress, and next steps for the organization. b. Open Projects i. Neighborhood Grants 1. Griffith SUBJECT: Consideration of the Recommendation of Neighborhood Commissioners to City Council for Appointment to the Hampton Neighborhood Commission AGENDA ITEM: II. A. ACTION REQUESTED: Approval of the Nominating Committee recommendation regarding the appointments of Districts 2, 8, and 10 Representatives Suggested Language for the Motion – “I move that we approve the recommendation from the Nominating Committee to submit nominees for appointment as Neighborhood Commissioners for Districts 2, 8, and 10 Representatives.” BACKGROUND STATEMENT: The Nominating Committee is tasked with presenting a recommendation for candidates to serve as representatives on the Neighborhood Commission. Candidates were selected based on the qualifications and expectations outlined in the Operations Manual-Chapter 2. After reviewing their applications and interviewing candidates, the Nominating Committee recommends: Nominee Sector Heyward Lovett District 2 Larry McKenzie District 8 Cheryl Collier District 10 NEXT STEPS (If Applicable): If approved, the recommendation will be forwarded to Hampton City Council for appointment.
