1 1/16/2024 Peninsula Stadium Authority Monday, January 8, 2024 War Memorial Stadium Conference Room Minutes Work Session Attendance Board Members • Garth Wallis (S) • Jerri Patrick • Jim Wilson (Emeritus) Hampton City Staff • Angela King The work session was called to order at 11:30 a.m. New Member Orientation The purpose of this work session was to provide new member orientation. Various documents were provided to the new board member and further discussed. These documents included a history of the PSA, a history of Community Baseball, FOIA, Conflict of Interest, Roberts Rules of Order, and various meeting agenda items. Board Member Updates Wayne introduced the new board member, Jerri Patrick. Jerri gave a brief summary of her community and baseball involvement. Minutes A motion to accept the December 11 meeting minutes was made by Randy and seconded by John. All voted and the motion passed unanimously. Locker Room and Scoreboard McCord was not able to join the meeting, but Wayne shared the following locker room and scoreboard projects updates on his behalf. The City expects to receive the updated bid package for the locker room renovations on January 19 from Woolpert and will share information with the board members at that time. The scoreboard contract was sent to Daktronics on December 18 and the City is waiting to receive a signed copy back from the vendor. Once received, it will be routed for City signatures. The Pilots raised some remaining questions about the scope of work with Daktronics. Angela requested that they send an email with the specific items they want confirmation on. There is no need to take action on either of these items at this time. 3 1/16/2024 Winter Project Update Garth provided an update on the eight winter projects. The projects continue to be prioritized with Matt throughout the winter. Opening Day & 2024 Season Discussion Last meeting we started to talk a bit about opening day and unveiling some of the winter projects – for example, doing a ribbon cutting if the scoreboard is completed. The Board discussed more about what we need to be doing for opening day and for the 2024 season more generally so we can start getting those plans in place. Discussion included: • Ribbon cutting for all stadium improvements including new scoreboard, new fans, renovated concession stand, new history wall • Video with City dignitaries, current players and coaches, player alumni, sponsors, etc. • A non-gameday ceremony • Color guard (police and fire) • History Museum Wayne is coordinating the initial gathering of opening day opportunities. Peninsula Pilots Updates The following highlights were provided by the Pilots and Community Baseball, LLC (CB LLC): • Hank Morgan is the 46th recipient of the prestigious Bud Metheny Award. The award will be presented on Friday January 19th at The Annual ODU Baseball “Step up to the Plate” fundraiser. • NNS Apprentice School signed a new lease agreement with CB LLC. • Pilots are starting to focus on recruiting corporate support and host families. o Coordinating with Hampton City Military Liaison – including Mary Fugere. Treasurer’s Report Melissa was not present; however, she provided the details of the Treasurer’s report for Randy to share. Details of the report include three approved expenses totaling $40,311, interest income of $4 and a balance of $220,871. A motion to accept the report was made by Garth and seconded by John. All voted and the motion passed unanimously. New Business The Pilots discussed the possibility of creating a ticket portal to encourage full use of the box seats, especially when box owners are not physically present at games. The Chair adjourned the meeting at 1:00 p.m. Next regular meeting is February 5, 2024, at 12:00 (noon) at War Memorial Stadium.
