ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, February 4, 2016; 6:30 p.m. Members Present: Willie Brown, Terrell Kingwood, Shawn O’Keefe, Robert Shuford, Excused: Donald Van Patten, Absent: Douglas Sessoms, Kelly Wilson Staff Present: Torriano Askew, Brian DeProfio, Laura Fitzpatrick, Kellie Godfrey, Patricia Melochick, Kevin Myers I. Welcome and call to order – Kevin Myers II. Introductions – Introduction of board members and city staff in attendance. III. Budget Presentation – Brian DeProfio a. Overview of the Capital Improvement budget. IV. Old Business a. Overview of board appointments: There are nine appointments allocated with seven currently filled. Mr. Myers will actively begin the process of filling all appointments in order to have a fully operational board. b. Mr. Myers will invite department staff to attend monthly meetings to provide an overview of the various divisions. c. Officers will be elected for the Chair and Vice Chair positions; City staff will provide secretarial duties. V. New Business a. Members’ shared reasons they chose to be on the Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services (PRLS) Advisory Board. Mr. Brown wants to offer advice on quality of life issues within the city; Mr. O’Keefe relays a passion for youth engagement, therapeutics and ways in which new and innovative ideas can be introduced to the City; Mr. Kingwood would like to assist with community engagement. b. Assistant City Manager Laura Fitzpatrick announced two vacant youth commissioner appointments. VI. Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services – Kevin Myers a. Currently reviewing all active contracts and agreements to determine which, if any, will move forward. b. Leadership staff is establishing a departmental Policy & Procedures manual to aid in citizens’ expectation of PRLS. c. Requests the board members act as the “eyes and ears” within the community to message the positive outcomes of PRLS. VII. Updates and Announcements - No updates and announcements were reported VIII.
