Introductions – Chair Tripp asked all to introduce themselves for the good of the group II. Call to Order – Chair Tripp called the meeting to order at 12:20pm III. Approve January 14, 2020 Meeting Minutes – Chair Tripp advised the minutes have been distributed; Mayor Tuck moved to accept the minutes as presented, Naima seconded, and the minutes were approved unanimously V. Strategic Direction Subcommittees Goals & Objectives Update a. Communications/Community Engagement – Mary provided a summary of the February 4th meeting notes as attached; Naima offered to join this subcommittee; Toni suggested TV monitor messaging at TNCC, Bryant & Stratton College and Hampton University to advertise Town & Gown related events; Angela offered that Bryant & Stratton could advertise events via kiosks in their student lounge and Veterans Center; Steve Bond informed the group a meeting with the City Manager will result in future meetings to discuss the goals and intent of the Town & Gown Committee; the committee will pursue potential prospects to collaborate with Cities United to market intern/volunteer opportunities; **Brenda will share the link to the City of Philadelphia  career website showcasing available internships and will investigate teleconference capabilities in the Community Development Conference Room to determine if call-in conferencing can be offered to members unable to attend committee meetings b. Economic Development/Student Retention – Toni shared that Steve Lynch, Mark Crump and she met last week to discuss/brainstorm ideas to capitalize on the planning of the fall pep rally and a potential internship fair in the fall; she noted that there are many details being considered; Angela volunteered to join this subcommittee at the next meeting 2p Thursday, March 5 in Economic Development offices at Ruppert L. Sargent Building and first Thursday of every month VI. Key Updates Since the January 14, 2020 Meeting Angela noted this week begins Bryant & Stratton’s fifth week of the winter semester; February is Black American History month and they are featuring a local artist exhibit during the month along with a reception on February 20th from 530-630p which is free and open to the public; she shared that City of Hampton Marketing & Outreach visited the Hampton campus to interview students involved in e-sports and take photos of the e-sports arena on campus to highlight the competition Mary stated the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show will be held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center from February 28 to March 2 Steve solicited applicants aged 18-24 years old to fill two vacancies on the Citizens Police Advisory Group; at the group’s request, Steve will provide a marketing flyer with details Toni announced the four annual events that take place in Phoebus have become so popular that Partnership for a New Phoebus will be adding five new, themed, annual events called Phoebus First Fridays from 5-9p beginning May 1 (theme: Cinco de Mayo), June 5 (theme: Unity), July 3 (theme: All-American Picnic/Car Show), August 7 (theme: SPCA Fundraiser), and September 5 (theme: Back to School) Cpl Wilson advised the Police Department has been compiling a history of the Hampton Police Department and welcomes any and all historical information; the department is always recruiting for staffing needs Giuseppe stated he is excited about being a member of this committee and announced Cookie with a Cop on February 16, Coffee Talk at Fox Hill McDonald’s February 28, and March McTeacher Nights where 10% of all profits are donated to Hampton City Schools Kellie stated Dr. Smith has been selected as one of the final four in the National Superintendent of the Year competition where the winner will be announced between 715-915p Pacific Time in San Diego, CA on February 13, 2020; the PR department is prepared for him to win; **Kellie will share a press release link to the final four interviews for distribution to the Committee  Ann would like any local business with a marquee to advertise if Dr. Smith wins; April is Military Child Month and Hampton City Schools celebrate on April 22 with a “purple up” event where staff will wear purple t-shirts and she encouraged all local businesses to join them in this initiative Naima announced Thomas Nelson Community College Black History Month activities will begin tomorrow as highlighted in the attached flyer Elizabeth shared the Student Government Association members are planning a “fair” for business owner students and a paint night fundraiser event for Peninsula SPCA Pamela introduced her intern, Kayla Moton, and distributed flyers for events benefitting the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) Kay Yow Cancer Fund: Pirates Collection Pack Raffle where the winner will be announced after halftime as well as the Breast Cancer Awareness Wear Pink event at the February 11th basketball game; after 54 years of service to Hampton University, Dean Jewel Long will be retiring; the HUPTI annual Gala of Hope fundraiser is scheduled for April 26; the first home game of the 2020-2021 school year will take place September 5; and Kayla organized a very successful indoor tailgate party on campus Raymond noted Sky Zone in Peninsula Town Center is officially open; the newly constructed Kroger in Riverpointe Shopping Center celebrated their opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 22; Hampton City Council approved the building of an aquatic center to be constructed at the corner of Pine Chapel Road and Coliseum Drive; Coliseum Central Business Improvement District will hold their annual meeting 8am February 24 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center and the February 14 Mayors Roundtable has been canceled VII.
