Agenda

Agenda

PENINSULA STADIUM AUTHORITY Minutes from January 23, 2017 The meeting was called to order by Jim Wilson, Chair. Others in attendance included Frank Feagan, Wanda Gomes, Sallie Marchello, Kevin Myers, Ruth Simmons, Tim Smith, Steve Todd, Pat Uribes, and AG Womble from the board, Henry Morgan and Jeffrey Scott from Community Baseball, and Carrie and Ron Quinn from Q Designs. Wanda moved and Pat seconded approval of the minutes. Wanda gave the Treasurer's report, saying that we have a balance of $43,203.12 with checks having been written to Q Design and Community Baseball for work done. During the holidays, Jim and the Pilots signed a new lease. It is a renewal and includes a special events package. Jim met with Mary Bunting over the holidays to explain that we may have a project for capital improvements inclusion. We want to focus on ADA, parking, lead paint, field conditions, and restrooms. We have $600,000 available to us for capital improvements this year. We will request another $600,000 in May for use after July 1, 2017. Our schedule for construction has to be centered around the schedules of the Pilots and the Apprentice School; so we probably can't start anything major until September.. It is anticipated that some city resources can be put toward assisting us. Henry said that we have people from each high school who are coming to paint this week, but we need to verify that it is OK to accept donations and free labor. A city engineer will oversee our projects. Q Design gave a presentation showing how we can incorporate ADA accessible restrooms and concessions with a new year round training facility. We can include a new entrance from the parking lot with the facility. We can include two batting cages on the first floor, have storage under the staircases, and have an observation/event space upstairs. A Walk of Fame is proposed in order to communicate the stadium's history. If we can make this our first project, we will have amenities such as ADA compliant restrooms and concession stands which will be helpful during later renovations. Henry will put up a batting cage this season which will have a concrete slab for the new building. The drainage component is an issue to be addressed later, possibly wit h a redo of Kentucky Avenue and the parking lot. Some of our concerns will be addressed with the proposed facility, and we will hope that Public Works will assist us with parking and drainage. Frank moved and Sallie seconded the following motion: “We propose that the project as presented by Q Design today be our first and primary project with the capital improvements plan for 2017 for Peninsula War Memorial Stadium if it is within budget parameters.” The motion was approved. Meeting adjourned.
