Agenda
PENINSULA STADIUM AUTHORITY Minutes from May 1, 2017
The meeting was called to order by Jim Wilson, Chair. Others in attendance included Everett Bensten,
Frank Feagan, Wayne Gomes, Sallie Marchello, Ruth Simmons, Tim Smith, Brenda Stokes, Pat Uribes,
and AG Womble from the board and Henry Morgan and Jeffrey Scott from Community Baseball.
The minutes of the April 4, 2017 meeting were approved.
Sallie gave the Treasurer's report, saying that she had written one check to Q Design and we earned a
little interest. Our balance is $15, 849.60.
Jim sent a letter to the City Manager and Director of Budget. We will receive a check for $99,138.00
sent to the stadium in care of Sallie. We will probably receive two checks with the insurance check
being separate. AG stated that the Treasurer's report is excellent in its form and the information that is
provided.
The new building must be Leads certified. The City is working with the Quinns. Carrie is working on
getting a purchase order so that we can start the process. Jim will follow up to ask Mike Hodges when
Carrie and Ron can get their purchase order and AECOM theirs.
There has been a request to get help from Public Works regarding drainage outside the right field wall.
Jeffrey has talked with several companies about restroom renovation. It will be easier to put air
conditioning in the third base side restroom than the first base one. Only third base side will have
heating and air. Tommy Garner wants to help with improvements.
The standing water issue will be resolved. Jeffrey hopes to make third base side handicapped
accessible. Plans are for the plumber to come in at the end of this week and then the painter.
We hope to get some new fixtures from Riverside Paper Supply from whom we purchase a lot of paper
products. We do not have a price on new doors, but we have approved expenditures of up to $15,000
and are at $10, 175.00 at this point.
Henry is still trying to resolve the batter's eye situation due to the current demand for forty foot pilings.
He is checking to see if we can get permission to have fourteen foot pilings which would reduce the
cost by $30,000.
Jim asked if the Apprentice School will help with the lead based paint and the outfield wall. We need a
price on the lead based paint issue. We also need to keep addressing ADA compliance.
Work needs to be done on the stadium history for the Wall of Fame. Jeffrey will consult with Frank
Edgar,Jr. about help from the Hampton History Museum.
A “Coming Soon” sign would be nice for the public to see the proposed projects. May 31 is Opening
Night for the 2017 season. Fans who have passed away will be honored-John Bane, Charles Darden,
Ross Kearney, Jr., and Jesse Kersey. The Mayor and City Manager will be invited to attend. Jeffrey will
give Jim a Special Events list so that police help can be hired.
The high school district tournament will be here on May 22, 25, and 26.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, June 5th.
