Peninsula Stadium Authority Minutes April 5th, 2021
The meeting was called to order by Jim Wilson, Chair. Others in
attendance included: Sallie Marchello, Randy Price, Jim Goodbody,
Brenda Stokes, Lola Perkins, Frank Feagan, David McCauley and Linda
Williams from the Board. Joining us electronically was Wayne Gomes.
Absent from the meeting was Kiufordis Khasidis. In attendance from
Community Baseball were Henry Morgan and Hank Morgan. Terri Zodda
daughter of Victor Zodda, was invited to the meeting as a special guest.
A motion was made by Frank to allow Wayne to join our meeting
electronically. The motion was seconded by Brenda and accepted by the
Committee.
Henry Morgan introduced Terri Zodda to the Board members. Her
Father Victor Zodda, was the Stadiums first General Manager.
Terri Zodda would like to participate in the planning and displaying of
the War Memorial Stadium’s baseball history. She asked the Board to
consider displaying a plaque in the Stadium to honor her late father for
the contributions he made to the Stadium Terri, on behalf of the Zodda
family, is also donating the scrap book that her family has put together
related to Baseball history at War Memorial Stadium. A motion was
made by Randy for the PSA to pay for the plaque, Jim G. seconded the
motion and it was approved by the Committee. Terry will be getting
estimates for the plaque and will get back with us at our next meeting for
the Committee’s approval.
The March 1st Minutes were approved by Randy, seconded by Jim G. and
accepted by the Committee.
The Treasurers report was presented by Frank. There were two prior
errors that have been correctly emended, one check from the City
deposited and one interest credit deposited since our last meeting. The
new balance is $119,099.45.
Dedication of the Entry Way Building is set for Wednesday, May 26th at
9:00am. Invites will go to Hampton City Council members, PSA members
and former members, Major Vendors, City Representatives and Public
Works. Henry would also like to invite Hampton City Council members
to the Opening Game, May 26th, to thank them for their Sponsorship of
the Stadium.
Safety Signs for the Stadium have been reviewed by the City and
approved. Henry has requested 2 “General Warning” signs to be placed
at each entrance, 2 “Attention” signs and 6 “Heads Up” signs to be placed
in various areas. Jim W. made a motion to allow the City’s outside
vendor to make these metal signs, Randy approved the motion, Brenda
seconded it and it was accepted by the Committee.
Vendor proposal for Clubhouse work – The Pilots are requesting a
proposal from Q-DESIGN to renovate the Clubhouse. Frank would like to
see a detailed breakdown of each item on the proposal. A motion was
made by Sallie to use Q-DESIGN for the renovation proposals of the
Clubhouse, it was seconded by Randy and accepted by the Committee.
We have received a list of questions and answers from Lola, our City
Attorney, regarding the Procurement Process and other issues. We will
discuss this at our May meeting.
Update on the Baseball Left Field Light pole repair – the light pole is now
operational; however, parts are now on order to properly weatherproof
the wire connections in order to properly resolve this issue.
Barricades for parking lot – Henry and Hank like the large concrete balls,
their concern would be to allow emergency vehicles and delivery
vehicles into the parking lot. Randy says the site plans would also need
to be reviewed by the City Fire Marshall’s Office. Sallie made a motion to
use Q-DESIGN and Kerrick Construction of Hampton, Virginia to perform
the design work and installation plan required for this project. Frank
seconded the motion and it was accepted by the Committee.
Athletic Grounds Maintenance Program – There are approximately 11
items that are maintained with the program. The Pilots are requesting
that the PSA share the annual expense 50/50. The program starts in
March and ends in October. Henry will get the exact cost and present at
our next meeting in May.
The Purification System has been installed and completed. There was
more work done than anticipated. Additional systems were installed in
other bathrooms and electric run to ensure the safety of the players and
fans. The total cost was $5,611.54. A motion was made by Sallie to pay
the $5,611.54 for the work done. The motion was seconded by Brenda
and approved by the Committee.
Henry and Hank are looking into getting touchless facets, toilets and
hand dryers. They will be getting estimates to us and present at our May
meeting.
New Business – Henry would like the help of PSA to put approximately 8
tables in the new Pavilion Building (upstairs). He passed out a pamphlet
of a plastic-coated metal table and chair set that he was interested in.
We will discuss further at our May meeting.
