Eight members were present at the start of the meeting. A motion to approve the remote participation of Garth as a virtual attendee for this meeting was made by Sallie and seconded by Randy. All voted, and the motion passed unanimously. Locker Room Renovations The first order of business is discussion of the locker room renovations project. Last meeting, we discussed the impacts to the playground, play area, and sewer line at the rear of the building and asked that Woolpert consider shifting the building to minimize the impact on the mini ball field and sewer line. Woolpert is here this evening to provide additional information. Woolpert started the discussion with a PowerPoint presentation that included several drawings. Sallie summarized the PSA’s desire to protect the play area (wiffle ball field) and the conflict with the back wall and the sewer line. Adam (Woolpert) asked if the wiffle ball field was a priority. Board consensus was to ‘save wiffle ball, if we can.’ Two options were presented. Randy suggested that the group go outside and actually walk the options / proposals. All meeting attendees, including the zoom participant, walked to the existing locker room and play areas. The group viewed the proposed expansion’s footprint designated by orange cones placed at the measurements indicated on Woolpert’s drawings (dated 03/20/2023). Several conversations occurred regarding relocation of the building footprint: • to accommodate the wiffle ball field, 2 5/17/2023 • to accommodate other adjacent functional areas (i.e., the blue and white playground sliding board apparatus), • to avoid interfering with the dugouts, and • player and fan access to the ball field. PSA board members returned to the conference room and the meeting continued. Frank offered a motion to move (shift) the western addition (approximately forty feet by forty-one feet) of the new locker room north, up to, but no closer than five feet to the 1st base dugout / field brick wall; and reconfigure the internal spaces for proper function, as needed. Jim G seconded the motion; discussion followed. This concept would maintain a five-foot pedestrian corridor between the field and the locker room. Dugout expansion and the wiffle ball field will be preserved. All voted and the motion passed unanimously. McCord informed the board that the sewer line could be relocated at a reasonable cost for the overall project. A motion to approve the bump-out bathroom expansion as presented was made by Sallie and seconded by Frank. All voted, and the motion passed unanimously. This results in no change to the Woolpert drawings for this aspect of the design. Woolpert will update all necessary drawings and resubmit them to PSA / City. PSA will review and provide feedback on the revised drawings via email. ODU Dugouts This item is on the agenda just to reiterate the recent update that was sent to all board members. The renovation of ODU’s stadium has been delayed so they no longer are requesting to utilize War Memorial during their 2024 season. At this time, they do not have a definite schedule for their renovation, nor do they know if they may request use of War Memorial in the future. Frank has sent emails on behalf of the PSA to each of three General Contractors, thanking them for their proposals and explaining why the timing of the Dugouts Expansions has changed. Hopefully, this continues a good relationship with each of them with regard to this or other future projects. At PSA’s July meeting we will be discussing priorities for winter projects and can include the dugouts as a potential project for the board to discuss. The Chair adjourned the meeting at 6:21 p.m. Next regular meeting on June 5, 2023, at 12:00 (noon) War Memorial Stadium.
