All eleven Board members were present at the History Museum Update. Minutes A motion to accept the January 8 meeting minutes was made by John and seconded by Jerri. All voted and the motion passed unanimously. Treasurer’s Report Melissa presented the Treasurer’s report that included two approved expenses totaling $300 and a balance of $220,560. A copy of the summary report was included in the meeting reminder. A motion to accept the report was made by Garth and seconded by John. All voted and the motion passed unanimously. History Museum Update Allen Hoilman from the Hampton History Museum provided an update on the panel and banner project. The visuals will initially focus on the creation of the stadium and early baseball in Hampton Roads. The project will support opening day, May 23, 2024. Allen continues to search for “good quality” pictures. 2 2/21/2024 PSA Organizational Structure Discussion Wayne and Melissa met with members of the Hampton History Museum Association. Discussion topics included an advisory board, nonprofit matters, fund raising, grants, and meeting conversations. We are working to schedule similar meetings with the Coliseum Advisory Board, Hampton Commission on the Arts, and the Hampton Arts Foundation. In the coming months, Angela will provide an update on the timing and process associated with the for the reorganization – but for now, there is nothing that the PSA needs to do, so we will focus on our ongoing projects and the upcoming season. Scoreboard A contract has been signed with Daktronics for the new scoreboard. Henry complimented McCord on the contract negotiations which included a 5-year warranty for parts and labor. Locker Room McCord provided an update on the Locker Room items. As reported in prior months, the City project has been separated into two projects (Renovation and Addition): • Renovation: renovating the existing building into both home and away locker areas and umpire locker areas; with provisions to accommodate ice and laundry services in the renovated facility. • Addition: adding the coaches’ rooms, training room, maintenance room, and storage area. The expectation is that the Renovation groundbreaking will be the fall/winter of 2024. Drawings / plans should be available for review in the next few weeks. Opening Day & 2024 Season Discussion No plans have been finalized. Opening day is Thursday, May 23 with fireworks on Friday. Potential invitees to opening day include Mayor, City Manager, Council, other city staff, and the PSA Board. • Several off-season improvements will be ready for opening day 2024 o New Scoreboard o Renovated Concession Stand o Big Fans o Enhanced backstop netting o Repaired roof leaks o History Wall • Pilot’s 25th Anniversary at War Memorial Stadium • Board discussed Ribbon Cutting Ceremony including speeches and video Winter Project Update Garth provided an update on the winter projects. All projects are being worked on and will be further prioritized with Matt throughout the remainder of the winter. • The new concession stand area was unlocked after the meeting, so board members were encouraged to view the improvements. 3 2/21/2024 • The Johnson Control Fire Control contract exceeded the original estimate by $1,346. A motion to approve the additional expense was made by Garth and seconded by Ruth. All voted and the motion passed unanimously. Peninsula Pilots Updates The following highlights were provided by the Pilots and Community Baseball, LLC (CB LLC): • Pilots are actively working on all of the winter projects • 25th Anniversary • Season ticket sales are up – also working on Flex ticket plans of 4-, 8-, or 12- games • The league has increased the number of post eligibility players for each team (this will benefit the Pilots with returning players) • The Pilots were encouraged to explore local Military contacts for the shipyard, Langley, and Ft. Eustis New Business None. The Chair adjourned the meeting at 12:58 p.m. Next regular meeting is March 4, 2024, at 12:00 (noon) at War Memorial Stadium.
