Citizens’ Unity Commission Monthly Meeting Minutes Thursday, February 8th, 2024 6:00 -8:00pm Community Development Conference Room, City Hall, 5th floor Attendance: Katrina Bailey, Jennifer Evans, Chris Grady, Malik Perry, Phyllis Porter, Shuntay Tarver, Kathreen Tadrous, Ellen Velissarios, Raquel McMillan, Vidal Dickerson, F. Gregg Horne, Mei Stukes, Steven Wendell, Dawn James-Taylor Staff: Imara Gabe Diaz, Mariah Roederer Absent: Samantha Snead (A), Tamika Lett (AN), Brad Young (AN), Steven Loncar (AN), Natalie Cumpson (A) Call to Order – Ellen Velissarios, @ 6:01 pm Roll Call – Mariah Roederer, Program Coordinator Welcome Old Business Item 1: Review and Approval of Meeting Minutes – Commissioners were given time for review and approval of the meeting minutes from 1/11/2024. Chairperson Ellen Velissarios called for a motion to approve and adopt the meeting minutes for 1/1/2024. A motion to approve was made by Commissioner Katrina Bailey and 2nd by Commissioner Steve Wendell. New Business Item 1: Unity Awards – Executive Director Gabe Diaz led the discussion around Unity Awards. Members of the Youth Advisory Group, Citizens Advisory and Review Commission, and Hampton Youth Commission were in attendance due to their participation in presentation of the Unity Awards. Awards were discussed including review of script, and run through of script by presenters. Commissioners gave feedback and made adjustments to script. The commission also discussed performances, four performances will occur including Soundscapes Youth Orchestra, spoken word performers Michelle Vinny and Matthew St. Clair, and the D.A.Y. Program. The commission is expecting 150 in attendance, and is providing light catering from Chic-fil-a. Volunteer positons and procedures were also covered. All volunteers and commissioners are expected to meet at the American Theatre one hour before event begins. 1 Announcements Unity Awards at the American Theatre, February 9th, TOMORROW!
