Meeting Called To Order A meeting of the Harrisonburg Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission was held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 7 p.m. via GoTo Meeting. Kevin Gibson called the meeting to order with the following commission members present: Deanna Reed, Kevin Gibson, Sandy Bopp, Jim Logan, Obie Hill and Leonard Van Wyk. Present from Parks and Recreation: Brian Mancini, and Connie Lawson. I Welcome - Kevin Gibson welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. II. Approval of January Meeting Minutes- Jim Logan motioned to approve the minutes. Deanna Reed seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of approving the January 31,2022 minutes. III. Election of Officers-Deanna Reed nominated Obie Hill for Chair, Jim Logan seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor. Deanna Reed nominated Kevin Gibson as the Vice Chair, Jim Logan seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor. IV. Director’s Report & Project Updates-Brian Mancini highlighted: a.) With Covid numbers down programs should get back to normal soon. b.) Park shelters will be open for reservations starting April 4th. c.) Working on Summer programs and camps. d.) Pool is researching the Swim by Second program. e.) Looking into installing game rooms at both Simms and the CAC. V. Action Items a.) Upcoming Events- More information will be available at March meeting. VI. General Public Comments - Aaron Hewitt asked about aquatic fitness opportunities available to residents. VII. PRAC Questions/Comments-Highlighted Questions/Comments: a) What are the numbers on Baseball/Softball and will the city interact with the county? Since these programs are privately run we do not have the numbers yet and are unsure if they will be competing against county teams. b) Will the city be holding the International Festival this year? This event is run by the Downtown Renaissance. c) New 7 panel exhibit at the Simms Center dedicated to teacher Mary Awkard Fairfax. Exhibit is located in the Conference Room which used to be her classroom. VIII. Next PRAC Meeting - The next meeting will be held at the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center on March 21, 2022 at 7 p.m. VIIII. Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. 2.
