Park Survey Update provided: October 6, 2025 – City Council approved the Park Board request to publish a Park Survey to allow for residential input on future projects and park plans. One survey will be allowed per address, and in the event that the address has already been used, or is outside of Haslet City Limits, that particular survey will be disregarded in the findings. The survey will be published electronically on the City of Haslet website where the data will be secure and encrypted. The survey will be accessible to residents that request a paper copy. Citizens will be able to submit responses between November 17th, 2025, and December 19th, 2025. Parks and Recreation Board AGENDA ITEM REPORT MEETING: Parks and Recreation Board - 14 Jan 2026 SUBJECT: Discuss, consider and act on a presentation from Girl Scout Troop Members Eleanor Kent and Sarah Smith allowing a project to install the placement of screech owl nesting boxes in the community park and make recommendation to the city council for same. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Eleanor Kent and Sarah Smith, members of Girl Scout Troop #2755, are working on their Bronze Award - the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. They are building screech owl nesting boxes to help with natural mouse and rat population control in our area, and to support conservation efforts of these tiny predators. Eastern screech owls are a native species that rely on tree cavities for nesting. As older trees are removed due to safety concerns or development, natural nesting sites have become increasingly limited. Installing a nesting box helps support local wildlife by providing a safe and appropriate habitat for these owls, contributing to conservation efforts and biodiversity within the park. This project offers direct benefits to the park and community. Eastern screech owls help control rodent and insect populations naturally, supporting a balanced ecosystem. The nesting box would be installed following established wildlife conservation guidelines to ensure it is safe and unobtrusive. In addition to conservation benefits, this project provides an educational opportunity for the scouts to learn about local wildlife, habitat preservation, and civic engagement while giving back to the community they live in. The goal of the Bronze Award is to create a sustainable project that continues to benefit others long after the award is completed, and this nesting box aligns well with that mission. Page 12 of 12
