STATED TOWN BOARD MEETING APRIL 10, 2018 The Town Board of the Town of Hempstead, New York, met at the Town Meeting Pavilion, Hempstead Town Hall, I Washington Street, Hempstead, New York, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. RA, Town Attorney KEVIN CONROY, Town Comptroller DONALD X. CLAVIN, JR., Receiver of Taxes Supervisor Gillen asked Councilwoman Goosby to lead the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Supervisor Gillen gave special honor to the Lady Bruins Basket Ball Team of Baldwin, for being · second year in a row state champions, taking home the State Federation Title, having beat the opposing, top ranked and undefeated team. Senior Councilwoman Goosby commended them for their Team Spirit. Councilman D'Esposito, congratulated and praised them for making the Hempstead Township the largest and proudest joined by Councilwoman King Sweeney, glad to see all the girl power. Supervisor Gillen presented the team with a citation in recognition of their historic victory and outstanding achievements. Councilman D'Esposito recognized the 2018 Regeneron Scholars from the Town of Hempstead: Matthew Klein and Cameron Levy of John F. Kennedy High School and Justin Ng of Hewlett High School. Every year the town has an extraordinary showing in the national competition formerly known as the Intel Science Search Contest renamed "The Regeneron Science Talent Search Contest". For almost two decades the competition recognized the Nations most talented high school scholars, and has captured forty six scholar slots, four of which came from the Town of Hempstead. Young innovators chosen to participate in the talent search over the past seventy four years, have gone on to win seven noble prizes, two Fields Medals and five National Medals of Science, as well as eleven McArthur Foundation Fellowships and an academy award for Best Actress Natalie Portman. The Scholars each received $2,000 in recognition of their scientific achievements as well as the Schools they attended per semi-finalist. Councilman D'Esposito invited Councilwoman King Sweeney to present citations to Matthew and Cameron. Councilman D'Esposito along with Councilman Blakeman presented Justin with a citation.
