LONGOBARDI, Second Deputy Comptroller Supervisor Gillen reminded everyone that because September is "Pediatric Cancer Awareness" month gold ribbons have been tied to the lamp posts throughout the Town of Hempstead to raise awareness and to signify the fight that we are all in together against pediatric cancer. The Town Board wished to honor the tireless work of the "Mary Ruchalski Foundation" for their impact in combating Pediatric Cancer. Honored also was Carol Ruchalski, who took her personal tragedy of the loss of her daughter to pediatric cancer, and turned it into a mission every day to honor her daughters memory in raising money for the cure for this terrible disease. Carol was presented with a certificate of recognition from the Town of Hempstead for the "Mary Ruchalski Foundation" and thanked for the tremendous impact and all the work she is doing to help children throughout our country the community and Town of Hempstead. Supervisor Gillen announced the resignation of Councilwoman King Sweeney and asked for a round of applause, wishing her all the best.
