They are in need of volunteers for these activities. MAYOR STATON indicated that he was present at an earlier presentation and that he and his family plan to volunteer to serve at the Thanksgiving Day meal and asked the Board for approval of assistance of $2,500.00 toward the meal. MOTION by Commissioner Whitt, seconded by Commissioner Vowels, authorizing $2,500.00 to the Salvation Army to assist funding their Thanksgiving Day meal. The vote was called. On roll call, the vote stood: Commissioner Whitt ------ Aye: Commissioner Thomas --- Aye: Commissioner Vowels --- Aye: Commissioner Pruitt ------ Absent: Mayor Staton ----- Aye: ________________________ PRESENTATION: “Henderson Tennis Club – USTA Award for the Doc Hosbach Complex” DANE SHIELDS, Henderson Tennis Club, gave an update on receipt of the USTA 2023 Outstanding Tennis Facility award for the Doc Hosbach Tennis Complex. The Tennis Club is in partnership with the Henderson County Board of Education. The Henderson Tennis Club has been in existence for 65 years and has 4 officers and 18 board members. They have contributed $200,000.00 towards maintenance of the courts and tennis instructors. The Henderson Tennis Club hosted three United States Tennis Association state championship tournaments last year, and also share the courts with Henderson County High School for their tournaments utilizing a total of 24 tennis courts. In order to stay compliant with USTA standards, the courts cannot be restriped for pickleball or any other sport. ________________________ PRESENTATION: “Henderson Tourist Commission – Audubon State Park Project” MRS. ABBY DIXON, Henderson Courtis Commission Executive Director, and SHAWN GUSTAFSON, Hunden Strategic Partners Project Manager, gave a brief review on the feasibility study conducted for the proposed Audubon Regional Conference Center to be located in Audubon State Park. Mrs. Dixon then introduced DAVID MILLER, Audubon State Park Manager, who indicated approximately 120 to 125 bus loads, with 25 to 72 kids per bus, visit the park annually for various programs provided, such as summer programs, art programs, and challenge programs. MAYOR STATON added that the Conference Center would be beneficial to the park and asked how the facility would fit into the existing area. ANDY RIDEOUT, Friends of Audubon, indicated the existing building, lot area, old boathouse and existing parking lot would be used with upgrades to the pond area and a second entrance/exit installed. Ms. Dixon reported the next steps would be the allocation of funds from the State and to sell the project idea to the legislators. COMMISSIONER VOWELS indicated it would be very fortunate if the state funds this project. All present agreed. ________________________ 166 CITY OF HENDERSON – RECORD BOOK Record of Minutes of A Regular Meeting on October 24, 2023 PRESENTATION: “Henderson Leadership Initiative – I-69 Roundabout Project” MS. AMANDA HARDY and MS. KELLY DOUGLAS, Henderson Leadership Initiative members, gave a presentation on the proposed artwork for their I-69 roundabout project for one of the three roundabouts. They are working with Michael Wright of Stone Art on the Colonel head and pedestal to be made in color in one piece which will require an annual coating of shellac. It will take approximately a year to complete the sculpture. HLI received quotes for two different sizes of the sculpture, a ten-foot sculpture would cost approximately $40,000.00 and a fifteen foot sculpture is approximately $60,000.00. They are discussing fund raising options for the project. MAYOR STATON was optimistic to shoot for the fifteen-foot sculpture, indicating that construction of the three roundabouts is expected to begin at the end of this school year.
