October 16, 2014
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Brooks called the meeting to order at 4:41 p.m., at the City of Henderson,
Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water Street, Henderson, Nevada 89015.
II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL
D’Ann Sas, Executive Administrative Assistant, confirmed the meeting had been posted
in accordance with the Open Meeting Law by posting the agenda three working days
prior to the meeting at City Hall – 1st Floor Lobbies, Multigenerational Center, Whitney
Ranch Recreation Center, and Fire Station No. 86.

V. NEW BUSINESS
1. Approval of Minutes from July 17, 2014, Regular Meeting (For Possible Action)
No action was taken due to a lack of a quorum. This item will be continued to the
January 15, 2015, meeting.
2. Convention Center Update (For Information Only)
Ms. Bower noted that the City has been struggling with a deficit in regards to
infrastructure funding and they are currently trying to assess the future of the
Convention Center and what makes sense long term i.e. remodel or rebuild. There
have also been discussions whether or not to pursue a public/private partnership.
Staff feels very strongly that the Convention Center is an important component in
downtown Redevelopment and the future financial health of the facility as well. Ms.
Bower noted that staff has not taken anything to Council members yet, but they have
been talking with developers about how the public/private partnership would be
structured and determining if there was interest in the development community. Staff
will get direction from Council before any decisions are made. The group discussed
if there was a timeline or consensus on the type of facility they would like to have
downtown. Ms. Bower noted that there is not a timeline yet and they have not
determined the type of facility.

Ms. Mullins went over the Fall/Winter special events schedule.

4. Pavilion Update (For Information Only)
Ms. Mullins provided an update on the remaining Fall performances at the Pavilion.

October 18 I Love Soul Food Festival (rental)
Line-up includes MC Hammer, Morris Day & the Time, Mint
Condition, Stephanie Mills and Kelly Price

October 25 Las Vegas Youth Orchestra w/Alpin Hong
Ms. Bower reported that the R5 concert was the most successful concert held at the
Pavilion. The City not only covered their costs, but also turned a profit on the
concert.

5. Destination Sales Update (For Information Only)
Mr. Kirby reported on some of the conferences that have booked in Henderson.
Vegas Cup (2014 & 2015)
Construction Owners Association of America (2015)
Substance Abuse Program Administrators Association (2016)
International Economic Development Conference (2018)
Mr. Kirby also noted that the Henderson Tourism Council is scheduled to meet on
Monday, October 20. Items on the agenda include organizing a second sales blitz,
Friends and Family special rates and upcoming events.
Mr. Kirby noted the upcoming conferences he will be attending, which include:
Governor’s Conference, Reno, NV (October 27-29, 2014)
PCMA, Chicago, IL (January 10-14, 2015)
Diversity Summit, Newport Beach, CA (January 25-27, 2015)
VI. PUBLIC COMMENT
Ms. Bower noted that there have been some staffing changes in CA&T and they are
currently recruiting for a new Director. Interviews are being conducted the week of
October 20. The recruitment was open to both internal and external candidates.
VII. CHAIRMAN/MEMBER COMMENTS
Mr. Muelrath noted that the Henderson Chamber of Commerce held their expo at the
Convention Center on October 3 and wanted to recognize CA&T staff and Farah
Hafen for their outstanding service.
VIII. SET NEXT MEETING
The next meeting date was scheduled for January 15, 2015, at 4:30 p.m., at the
Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St., Henderson, NV 89015.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Commission, Chairman Brooks
adjourned the meeting at 5:02 p.m.
