CITY OF HENDERSON SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES October 19, 2016 I. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Dan Hyde called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., at 240 Water Street, Henderson City Hall, in the Council Chambers Conference Room. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Monica Rivera, Administrative Assistant III, confirmed the meeting had been posted in accordance with the Open Meeting Law by posting the agenda three working days prior to the meeting at City Hall, Multigenerational Center, Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, and Fire Station No. 86. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no comments presented by the public. IV. ACCEPTANCE OF THE AGENDA (Motion) Ms. McEvers introduced a motion to accept the agenda as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Hyde declared the motion carried. V. NEW BUSINESS NB-1 MINUTES SEPTEMBER 21, 2016 PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Adopt the minutes of September 21, 2016 meeting. A correction was made to Item NB-6 to reflect that Mr. Berman abstained. (Motion) Mr. Mullin introduced a motion to adopt the minutes as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Hyde declared the motion carried. NB-2 HENDERSON SENIORS' AUXILIARY PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION A member of the Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary will give the monthly report. Marianne Stanger, Henderson Seniors’ Auxiliary, gave an update on the monthly activities of the Henderson Senior’s Auxiliary. NB-3 SENIOR TRANSPORTATION PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Commission members will report on the October 13, 2016, senior transportation forum. Chairman Hyde gave a brief summary of the transportation forum that took place on October 13, 2016. Discussion ensued regarding the pros and cons of the forum and ways to improve it in the future. It was suggested that future forums take place during the day at the Heritage Park Senior Center. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Page 3 October 19, 2016 – Minutes It was the consensus of the Commission that this item be placed on next month’s agenda to discuss future transportation forums. NB-4 STAFF REPORT PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Recreation Services Manager, Corey Clark, will give a staff report and an update on the City's senior services. Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, briefly summarized the monthly staff report on the City’s senior services. Discussion ensued regarding ways to expand the Meals on Wheels program in an effort to serve more seniors in the Henderson community. It was the consensus of the Commission that this item be placed on next month’s agenda for further discussion. VI. CHAIRMAN/MEMBER COMMENTS Chairman Hyde noted that there are five Commissioners who are up for reappointment in June 2017. Mr. Berman commented that he would like to revisit the Medicare issue as he feels the opportunity should be made available to other individuals as well. VII. SET NEXT MEETING The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on NOvember, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers Conference Room of City Hall. VIII.
